4 Shots From 4 Films: The Incredible Shrinking Man, Sleepwalkers, Team America: World Police, Captain Marvel

4 Shots From 4 Films is just what it says it is, 4 shots from 4 of our favorite films. As opposed to the reviews and recaps we usually post, 4 Shots From 4 Films lets the visuals do the talking.

Happy International Cat Day!

Happy Independence Day!

Hi, everyone!

So, usually, whenever a holiday rolls around, Doc, the ennui-afflicted TSL Cat, writes a celebratory post.  Every year, I get people asking me how Doc, with his big paws and his lack of a formal education, can handle typing out a 500-word post.  And every year, I say the same thing: “Doc can do anything he puts his mind to!”

That said, I wanted to write today’s holiday post because I do have a very important message that I want to share with anyone who might be reading this.  I share this every year but, judging by the thunderous explosions and crackling bangs that kept me away last night, it needs to be said again.

First off, it’s great that you have fireworks but you know what?  You don’t need to shoot them off in your back yard!  GET OUT OF THE SUBURBS IF YOU’RE GOING TO SHOOT THOSE THINGS OFF!  Go out to the country and drink your beer and blow your hands off out there.  A few years ago, we actually had some drunken idiots who tried to shoot off fireworks in the middle of the street and it’s the closest I’ve ever come to calling the police on anyone.

Seriously, fireworks are fun and America’s great.  But neither one of those is an excuse for being a dick.

Secondly, remember that most animals aren’t going to be aware that today is Independence Day.  What we think of as being a celebration is going to sound like the end of the world to them.  Take care of your pets and make sure they’re safely inside tonight.  Doc’s probably going to spend tonight under my bed, as he often seems to do during the noisy holidays.  Fortunately, after about an hour, he forgets why he’s hiding and instead concentrates on trying to play tag whenever he sees my ankles.

Finally, the sounds of this holiday can bring back terrible memories for some people.  Please keep our veterans in mind before you try to make your neighborhood sound like a war zone.

So, I guess my 4th of July message is this: Be kind.  Be considerate.  Let’s be the best that we can be.

Happy 4th of July, everyone!

Happy Labor Day From The Shattered Lens

What is Labor Day and why do humans celebrate it?

Is it so unusual to work that human need a holiday to remind them to do it?  Cats don’t need a special day to remind them to do their duty.  A cat wakes up everyday knowing what needs to be doing and preparing to do it.  A cat knows that importance of exploring its territory.  A cat knows the importance of keeping a strict schedule.  Also a cat knows that it can get away with sleeping on the job.  In fact, sleep is a large part of the job!

The flame-haired one thinks that Labor Day is a “left-wing, communist plot” but I don’t understand what any of those words mean so I just let her ramble on until it’s time to be fed.

Today is Labor Day so sit back, do no work, and make it a great one!  If you need something to do on this Labor Day, there are over 11,000 posts on this site, the earliest of which was published all the way back to 2009!  Feel free to explore and let us know what you think.

Fear not, the cat will keep an eye on things until you get back…

And now a very special announcement from the Shattered Lens…

Hi everyone!

Today, I have very exciting news about something that has been going on behind-the-scenes for a while here at the Shattered Lens.  Today, one of my humans — I call her the flame-haired one but you probably call her Lisa Marie — finally convinced Arleigh that it’s time to turn the Shattered Lens into the internet’s number one Twilight fan site!

The flame-haired one has been trying to convince Arleigh to do this since she first joined the site in 2009.  Even though no one has really cared or thought about Twilight since 2012, the flame-haired one is convinced that she will be able to once again get everyone in America wondering if they’re “Team Edward” or “Team Jacob.”  So, say goodbye to the all of our old reviews and features and get ready for endless polls, memes, and out-of-date gossip about whether Rob and KStew are still as close as Edward and Bella!

Congratulations, Flame-Haired One!

April Fools!

From the humans and the cat here at the Shattered Lens, happy April Fools Day!  Please be kind with your jokes and remember that April Fools Day ends at midnight!  Any pranks pulled after midnight will no longer funny and will instead just be annoying.  Meh.

And Now …. A Special Halloween Message from Doc Bowman

Hi, everyone!

Doc Bowman here with a very special message!

Tomorrow is Halloween, which my owners — the flame-haired one and the nice one — says is the greatest time of the year!  It’s the time when kids get candy, horror movies are on TV, and my owners get to play dress up!

But it’s also a time when sick and stupid people do bad things.  I’m a black cat so both the flame-haired and the nice-one say that I’m not going to be allowed go outside at all tomorrow.  They say it doesn’t matter how much I beg, I’m staying inside.  I know they’re doing the right thing but I’m still going to beg and knock things off of tables and counters because I’m a cat and that’s what I do.

Tomorrow night, please make sure that all your pets are safely inside.  It may sound like a silly concern but not everyone out there is as nice and wonderful as my owners and the people who read this site!

Have a safe and happy Halloween everyone!

Here’s What Won At The Emmys Last Night!

Last night, Lisa Marie did not watch the Emmys because she says that, “I’m just not feeling TV this year.”  If Twin Peaks had been eligible to be nominated, I bet it would have been a different story!

Instead, she asked me to watch the ceremony and let everyone know what I thought.  It needed less politics and more cats.
