Happy Valentine’s Day From The Cats and the Humans at Through The Shattered Lens

To all of our readers, Happy Valentine’s Day!

I’ve written a lot of version of this post since I joined TSL.  This year, the Flame-haired One just wanted to post a picture of Godzilla and King Kong shaking hands but I looked at it and I said, “meh.”  There are some things that only a cat can do.

Today is not going to be an easy Valentine’s Day for some.  For some humans, Valentine’s Day is never easy.   If you will allow a cat to be serious for a minute, many humans have lost loved ones over the past two years, due to the pandemic and everything that goes along with it.  Celebrate love and celebrate happiness but take a minute to remember those who might be hurting or who might be missing their loved ones for the first time.  It’s up to you, the humans, to do this because we cats probably won’t.

Valentine’s Day isn’t just about what you do or where you go.  It’s about loving what you love.  Some humans love other humans.  Me, I love Temptations snacks, playing with my toys, and sleeping 10 hours a day.  That’s what Valentine’s Day is all about to me.

Whatever Valentine’s Day is about to you, we all hope that you are having a good and a safe one!  Happy Valentine’s Day to all!  Be kind to those you love and never, ever forget the cats and the humans in your life!

And now, a word from Doc Bowman concerning the holidays….

Hi, everyone!

Doc Bowman here with a very special holiday message!

Tomorrow is Halloween, which my owners — the flame-haired one and the nice one — says is the greatest time of the year!  It’s the time when kids get candy, horror movies are on TV, and my owners get to play dress up or, if it’s anything like last year, barely get dressed at all.

But it’s also a time when stupid people do bad things.  I’m a black cat so both the flame-haired and the nice-one say that I’m not going to be allowed go outside at all tomorrow.  They say it doesn’t matter how much I beg, I’m staying inside.  I know they’re doing the right thing but I’m still going to beg and knock things off of tables and counters because I’m a cat and that’s what I do.  And they’re going to hopefully give me a lot of treats and pet me to keep me happy, even though they’ll probably have to lock me in the flame-haired one’s room to keep me from running for the front door every time they open it for a trick or treater.  That’s just the way thing go at the cat’s house.

Tomorrow night, please make sure that all your pets are safely inside.  It may sound like a silly concern but not everyone out there is as nice and wonderful as my owners and the people who read this site!

Have a safe and happy Halloween everyone!

Happy Valentine’s Day From The Cats and the Humans at Through The Shattered Lens

To all of our readers, Happy Valentine’s Day!

Today is not going to be an easy Valentine’s Day.  A lot of humans have had to cancel their plans because of bad weather, including the flame-haired one.  She has been complaining nonstop since Thursday!  Me, I haven’t been outside since last week because it’s too cold and there’s all sorts of birds and squirrels and who knows what else out in the back yard!  A cat’s work is never done and I can’t do my work until the temperature gets back above freezing!  Meh!

But Valentine’s Day isn’t about what you do or where you go.

The Shattered Lens Live Tweets Super Bowl Sunday!

Today was probably the most low-key Super Bowl Sunday is the history of the Shattered Lens.

The reasons for that are fairly obvious.  The Super Bowl is tradition.  It’s something that people look forward to as a sign of normalcy and continuity.  Some people care about the game.  Some people care about the commercials.  But the main thing is that the Super Bowl is always there and it’s always a big deal.  This year, though, was different.

For one thing, the commercials were different.  Usually, we struggle to keep up with all of the movie advertisements but this year, there were only four to share.  For another things, no one really had a team in the game.  Jeff was excited about Tom Brady winning another Super Bowl.  Leonard wanted anyone but Brady to win.  But it’s not like anyone here at the TSL is a huge fan of either Kansas City or Tampa Bay.

So, it was a subdued Super Bowl Sunday.  Everyone observed it in their own way:

In the end, the team that score the most points won so congratulations to them! Here’s hoping that next year’s Super Bowl’s commercials will be a little bit more memorable.

The Shattered Lens Live Tweets Christmas

Happy holidays!

Today was Christmas and, as you can see, even the TSL cats got into it:

This year, Christmas was, for many of us, a bit more low-key than usual.  That’s understandable, of course.  For instance, I’m used to having a big family gathering for Christmas.  Usually, on this day, I would be catching up with aunts and uncles and cousins from all over the country.  The morning would be spent at one house and the afternoon at another and the evening and yet another.  That didn’t happen this year, for obvious reasons.  That said, my sisters and I were still able to keep a few our traditions alive.

For instance, I kept alive the tradition of waking up early and then wondering why everyone else was still asleep:

Every year, I make it a point to go for a drive on Christmas Day.  It may sound like a minor thing but it’s something that I always look forward to.

And finally, there were the most important traditions.  Like this one about watching certain movies over the course of the day.  I’m happy to say that I not only watched A Christmas Story this morning (before we even unwrapped presents, if you need an example of just how early I woke up compared to everyone else) but that it was also the 800th films that I’ve watched this year.

After A Christmas Story, it was time to rewatch It’s A Wonderful Life on E!  I also watched the 1983 Tom Cruise football film, All The Right Moves before joining my family in observing one of the greatest of all Christmas traditions:

Everyone celebrated Christmas in their own way.  Here’s a few thoughts from the TSL crew:

To be honest, that’s what I always thought Boxing Day was but apparently, it’s a shopping holiday.  That’s pretty nice since I was already planning on shopping tomorrow anyways.

Anyway, Happy Holidays, everyone!  I hope it was a good one without any fear.  Another year over and a new one just begun.

Happy Labor Day From The Humans and the Cats at Through The Shattered Lens

Happy Labor Day from the Shattered Lens!

I’m not sure what this holiday celebrates.  I guess it celebrates hard work but I rarely see humans working that hard.  There’s so many hours during the day when humans should be paying attention to their cats but instead, they’re just hanging out in some office, store, or warehouse.  Meanwhile, cats work 24 hours a day, patrolling our territory, searching for little rodents to leave on porches, bathing, controlling the bird population, and most importantly, taking naps.  This weekend, while humans were either grilling or watching TV, a million cats were doing their job.  You’re welcome.

So, to all of our human readers: enjoy your undeserved holiday while we cats continue to work hard to make sure that we’re all still here to celebrate in 2021.

4 Shots From 4 Films is just what it says it is, 4 shots from 4 of our favorite films. As opposed to the reviews and recaps we usually post, 4 Shots From 4 Films lets the visuals do the talking.
