I saw that actor Tom Skerritt passed away on October 21st. During his career he appeared in classics like ALIEN, TOP GUN, and STEEL MAGNOLIAS. I enjoyed him as well in his B-movies like FIGHTING BACK and OPPOSING FORCE. But the first movie I thought of when I heard of his passing was A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT, one of my favorites when I was growing up. He was so good as the minister and father to Craig Sheffer and Brad Pitt. To celebrate his life and career, I thought I’d share this fun scene from the film. Rest in peace, sir!
I remember him well from Poltergeist III. Obviously those other films were bigger but that film stuck with me as a kid.

That’s what’s so great about movies. A person who had such a long career has come in and out of our lives in so many different movies.

I must put a little movie in my Prime Watchlist that I loved him in: Getting Up and Going Home.

I haven’t heard of that one before. I love how different movies mean different things to us as we go through life!

I saw Tom Skerritt in person back in 2014, when he turned up at the Astor Theatre for a question-and-answer session. I have fond memories of Mr. Skerritt refusing to answer a really stupid question from an audience member. Someone asked him which was his favourite film from his career: Alien or Top Gun? The actor replied by asking why, out of more than 60 films in his career, he would limit himself to choosing between those two. Tom Skerritt had just come from a rather long flight and appeared absolutely exhausted, plus he was 80 years of age. He was full of good humour, but at the same time, he wasn’t putting up with anyone’s nonsense. Veronica Cartwright was meant to be there as well, but for one reason or another, was not in attendance.

I do agree that was a silly question. I don’t think Tom suffered fools.

I’ve known about this version for a number of years. I’d like to watch it. Good fortune for you to find it cheaply and easily!
