Trailer: Devil’s Knot

I think it’s a fair question to ask whether — after four documentaries and countless books — there’s really anything new to be said about the West Memphis Three.  That’s certainly the question that I asked when I heard that Atom Egoyan was making a narrative film about this case.

Having watched the trailer below and speaking as someone who has spent her share of time in Arkansas, I will say that Reese Whitherspoon appears to be perfectly cast while Colin Firth appears to be intriguingly miscast.

Trailer: Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (Official Teaser)

Sin City A Dame to Kill For

Hard to imagine it’s been 9 years since the original Sin City hit the big screen. It was a comic book adaptation that many thought wouldn’t work, especially how Rodriguez envisioned it to be slavishly loyal to not just Miller’s dialogue but also his unique art style.

The original film’s success quickly ramped up rumors that a sequel was already being planned using the second graphic novel in the Sin City series. Rodriguez himself stated he wanted Angelina Jolie for the role of Ava Lord, the titular “Dame to Kill For”, but after years and years of delay the role finally landed on Eva Green‘s lap (not a bad choice and one I fully support).

So, we’re now going back to Basin City for more tales of booze, broads and bullets in this hyper-noir film that should be loved or hated in equal measures by those who have followed Frank Miller’s career. Once again the directing duties have been split between Rodriguez and Miller. Here’s to hoping that Miller has learned how to be a much better directer after his last film, The Spirit, tanked.

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For is set for an August 22, 2014 release date.

Trailer: Transformers: Age of Extinction (Official)

maxresdefault

I know, I know, another Transformers extravaganza coming this summer. As if the last two wasn’t enough to swear me off the franchise. Well, guess what this one doesn’t have any of the actors from the first three and drops in a whole bunch of new ones to play war with the aforementioned robots who are more than meets the eye.

Instead of Shia LaBeouf in the lead role screaming like the most unheroic lead ever we get the manly man Mark Walhberg himself playing a Texas dad out to protect his daughter from the men in black while jump starting a rusted Optimus Prime on his spare time.

This fourth film looks to be a new start for the franchise that we all thought ended with a bang and a whimper with Transformers: Dark of the Moon, but there were still more Transformers that never made it to the bigscreen and what better way to do that than make a fourth. So, it looks like fans finally get Grimlock and the Dinobots plus a Decepticon that looks to be Galvatron.

Again, I will be seeing this (it’s like the scifi blockbuster version of Saw) just for the fact that it doesn’t have Shia LaBeouf for people to listen to scream shrilly every two or three minutes. Plus, it has Optimus Prime wrestling and then riding Grimlock.

Transformers: Age of Extinction is ready to make our eyes explode on June 27, 2014.

Trailer: Sabotage (Red Band)

Sabotage

Since Arnold Schwarzenneger left the California governor’s office and politics he’s gone back to doing what he was good at (or at least good at during the 80’s and 90’s). His first couple of films since getting back in front of the camera has been average at best (though I must say that Last Stand was pretty fun).

Now, we have him back in another film, but this time around one that’s a very hard, gritty R-rating that he hasn’t done since ever. He’s always had rated-R films, but they had a certain fun tone to them. With David Ayer’s Sabotage it looks like Schwarzenneger is trying to flex his hardcore bones. It’s definitely a surprise to hear him curse like a sailor during the red band trailer.

Sabotage is set for a March 28, 2014, release date.

Trailer: Guardians of the Galaxy (1st Official)

GuardiandoftheGalaxy

“What a bunch of A-holes.”

It’s finally here and though one had to sit through Bill O’reilly talking with Jimmy Kimmel. For some such a chore was worth the wait.

Marvel Studios’ entry into the very busy 2014 Summer Season will be the James Gunn-directed space opera called simply: Guardians of the Galaxy.

It has Rocket Raccoon and that’s all I needed to see.

Guardians of the Galaxy is set to unleash itself on the public on August 1, 2014.

Trailer: Neko Samurai

neko-samurai-30

Here’s a quick one from Japan. It’s called Neko Samurai and it’s something that could only be done in that land of badass and cute.

It’s a film about a samurai assassin who cannot go through with latest assassination job. The target which seems to have gotten to this hardened samurai assassin is none other than a white kitty.

The trailer is in Japanese with no translation other than the music which repeats the line “I’m so great!” which might just describe this film perfectly even after just seeing the trailer. Plus, the kitty winked.
