Polaroid, Short Film Review by Case Wright

We begin with a Gen-Z guy going through old boxes and he finds a polaroid camera. He starts taking pictures and sees a demon in the photograph. So, he decides to move out and flees for his safety with just the clothes on his back. Or, he gets out and chases content on youtube to get rich. Instead of all of those smart things, he takes another photo.

When confronted with a demon from another dimension, which you are slowly unleashing into our world, and are being not at all concerned with the well-being of anyone else who could be affected by your shenanigans, it’s PICTURE TIME! You’re gonna Ansel Adams on this B!%#&H!

I just did not care that this protagonist died. What a gigantic tool! I have a headline for this one:
Gigantic Tool Dies By Stupid.

Monitor, Short Film Review by Case Wright

Ok, sometimes shorts are dull, great, or a downer. Monitor is a downer. Don’t watch it. It’s terrible. It’s not bad in a good bad way. It’s just a bummer.

Two tired parents watching a baby and an evil spirit takes and kills the parents. I told you so. Monitor is a downer.

Sidenote: anyone who says the greatest words are “I love you” has never felt the unadulterated rush of justifiably saying “I told you so”.

Look Up, AI Short Film Review by Case Wright

AI is not always great. I do use it a lot for patent-related work, legal questions, and drafting legal documents. However, for AI to be a tool- you can’t be one. A guy jogs in casual Friday gear, he gets shot with a tree dart, hallucinates, and is kidnapped by a large bat-crow. I never thought about making something boring. Maybe, my writing is not always great, but I don’t think it’s boring.

If the apocalypse is this boring, I pass. Maybe it’s just crow-related apocalypses that are boring? I’m not sure, but this was 4 minutes of my life that was stolen from me. Just stolen!

Why am I supposed to care about this woman? Ok, she lives alone and she ordered food. Maybe, the guy delivered the food to the inside of her house. But how?
She was at the door and there was no way he could’ve gotten past her and she didn’t have headphones on.

Is he a ghost delivery driver? If so, score! No tip! I’m not tipping a dead guy and neither should you. I think that I’m going to review AI again because people are really disappointing me!

If a man wakes up in the woods and no one cares, did a film even happen? Well sadly, this film was made because we don’t have quality control over whom gets to use the iPhone video camera app. We really need some punishment, if you make a film like this. I’m NOT saying beatings…BUT what if we don’t break the skin?

A man wakes up in the woods and a monster who mimics human voices chases him. I understand that some of you are thinking Appalachian horror, but you can’t because you will only encourage him and filmmakers like him. We can’t let this become a trend. Just, NO! We already have Alex Magana; he exists- AMONG US! If we get together, we could devise a plan to hide this man’s phone: PROBLEM SOLVED!

Momo, Short Film Review, by Case Wright

Momo is a home movie short; in fact, I have the same fridge. The short is straight forward- beginning, middle, and an end. A man hears a noise, gets a baseball bat, and jump scare.

I know some of you are gonna be like- Case, this is barely a film. I respond with “Relax”; he’s got some talent and he’s trying to make art. Also, it’s A LOT better than some that have a budget …. of any kind. Think on this, he made this with no budget and it had a clear story and payoff- that’s storytelling. I hope he tries to make something longer with a developed plot.

No, I have not gone soft. If it were bad, I’d say so- it’s fun.

Coward, Short Film Review by Case Wright

Coward has A LOT going on, but it’s fun! The protagonist is reading in the woods next to Baby Yoda (yes, really), Baby Yoda flees, and our protagonist dies.

Hear me out, this story has a beginning, middle, and end. Also, it made me laugh. Kerron Andrews has skills to make a quick compelling story – FOR CHEAP! Industry people – Take Note- If I were looking for a man to make my low budget horror film, I’d DM him right away.

I couldn’t find Kerron Andrews on X, but I left him a kind comment on his YT.

Lights Out, Short Film Review by Case Wright

Lights Out is a short film that asks the question: how did you live this long? Even if there were no ghosts, how did you survive with NEGATIVE survival skills?

A woman in her pajamas turns her lights out and sees a monster. So, she does what any person who has the IQ of a rabbit would do, she turns the lights on and off several times, watching the creature get closer to her. Does she run? No. Does she get out of the apartment? No. Does she call for help? No. She goes to bed and waits for the monster to kill her.

The short was scary, but did the protagonist just get drunk on stupid juice before she ended her day?

That’s Not Me, Short Film Review by Case Wright

“That’s Not Me” is proof that you don’t need a lot of time to build concern and suspense for your protagonist. Honestly, I’m not sure why I like short films so much. It’s obvious why I like AI films- I’m a NERD like a REAL NERD like, studies math for fun, NERD! I think I like short films because I like instant gratification sometimes. It’s fun to enter a world, exit it, and be moved in less than thirty-minutes.

The mirror scare is a cliche and is inherently in a private/vulnerable space. Think of ALL of the things that you have done in a bathroom; now, imagine if you did the exact things in a hotel lobby, 4/5 of the people there would be upset.

Our protagonist is brushing teeth, but the reflection is not hers. It’s a predator and it’s hunting her. “That’s Not Me” delivers a good quick scare!

Looking Back, Short Film Review, by Case Wright

When I watched this short, not only was I entertained, I was uplifted. The short reminded me of the positivity films Lisa reviews.

The short opens with a large husband, beautiful wife, and the husband finding a positive pregnancy test on his counter. I was waiting for the traditional revenge or betrayal story, but I got something totally different.

The wife says that the pregnancy test is her sister’s, but that he said that he was ok with not having kids. He feels disappointed that he won’t ever be dad and goes to his “car” to run errands. The husband goes to his electric car (ughhhh) and sees a “The Ring” like ghost in his rear camera. The man and the ghost take on a father/daughter relationship and it is … really sweet. If you’re looking for a reason to have kids, this hits that spot.
