Scenes I Love: Jason and the Argonauts

Today would have been Ray Harryhausen’s birthday.

In honor of the man and his legacy, today’s scene that I love comes from 1963’s Jason and the Argonauts.  The skeleton army was one of Harryhausen’s greatest creations.

  1. Still love the effects of this movie, one of the best arguments for practical effects ever. The innate un-reality of how everything is moving due to the stop motion process, combined with the tangible physicality of actual props, it’s surreal in a way that CGI could never touch. Would kill for modern films to actually work more of this stuff in, especially with what we could accomplish today if we actually tried.
