Here’s the trailer for the upcoming horror film, Stay Safe. It appears to be another pandemic thriller. Despite the efforts of many to memory-hole just how insane the COVID era was, movies will always be around to remind us, whether intentionally or not.
Paddington’s back and this time, he and his family are sailing the Amazon in search of Aunt Lucy! If Werner Herzog doesn’t have a cameo in this film, it will be a major missed opportunity. And while we don’t know if Herzog made it, we do know that Olivia Colman is apparently playing some sort of singing nun while Emily Mortimer will be replacing Sally Hawkins in the role of Paddington’s adopted mother.
Hey, it’s another trailer for Ti West’s Maxxxine, the third part of the Mia Goth-centered trilogy that no one saw coming. The film opens on July 5th. Check out the latest trailer below:
Here’s the official trailer for Alien: Romulus, which director Fede Alvarez has promised will be a return to the genre’s roots as a haunted house movie in space. We’ll see how that goes. The trailer certainly is not lacking in atmosphere.
After a fantastic run with the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man trilogy, director Jon Watts shows no signs of slowing down. His next project, Wolfs, is one he wrote, produced and directed with a little assistance from Apple Films. The film reunites Oceans’ Eleven stars George Clooney and Brad Pitt as a pair of competing fixers that are forced to work together. It’s not too far removed from Michael Clayton for Clooney or Bullet Train for Pitt. The film also stars Amy Ryan (Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building) Austin Abhrams (HBO’s Euphoria) and Poorna Jagannathan (HBO’s The Night of).
(New York and the other TSL branches are covering for the Texas Division until power is restored. We wish the the best and hope for a speedy recovery. Coincidentally, my little brother’s just West of Dallas Ft. Worth, and I haven’t heard from him yet. Stay strong out there!)
It looks like Moana (Auli’i Cravalho) and Maui (Dwayne Johnson) are back for another adventure. While we aren’t given too many details as to what this entails, one major change will be the lack of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s involvement, musically. Fear not, as both Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear (known as Barlow & Bear, of course) have taken on musical duties. We’ll see where this takes us.
The Cannes Film Festival opens today. One of the most anticipated films on this year’s program is Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis, a long-time passion project from Coppola that the studios apparently judged to be unsellable.
I have to admit that, from what I heard about the film, I was a bit skeptical about it. But, earlier today, I saw the trailer and I’ll just say that it won me over. The visuals, the humor, the fact that Coppola seems to be aware that his film is vision is a bit over the top, all of them fill me with a new-found hope for this film.
Star Wars not only launched an entire expanded universe. It also launched a few thousand rip-offs. For this weeks edition of Lisa Marie’s Favorite Grindhouse and Exploitation Film Trailers, we’ve got six trailers that might seem just a little familiar….
Battle Beyond The Stars (1980)
From Roger Corman comes this film, which is as much a rip-off of The Magnificent Seven as it is of Star Wars. Battle Beyond The Stars was a surprise box office success when it was first released.
2. Space Raiders (1983)
Also from executive producer Roger Corman, Space Raiders tells the story of what happens when a quirky band of intergalactic outlaws pick up an annoying (and frankly, rather stupid) kid.
3. The Humanoid (1979)
From director Aldo Lado, The Humanoid features the great Richard Kiel as the title character. There’s also a cute robot, an older mystic, and an evil Empire.
4. Message From Space (1978)
Do you remember another film that had a message from space?
5. Flash Gordon (1980)
Interestingly enough, Star Wars was as inspired by the original Flash Gordon as the Flash Gordon reboot was inspired by Star Wars.
6. Starcrash (1978)
And finally, we have Starcrash, the Star Wars rip-off that is actually better than Star Wars!
The X trilogy kind of snuck up on everyone. The end of March 2022’s “X” gave us a sneak peek at Pearl, which ended up releasing later in theatres that same year. Now, director Ti West and actress Mia Goth are closing the loop with MaXXXine, which arrives in theatres this summer.
MaXXXine is a direct sequel to X, with our heroine still wanting to be a major star after the events of the first film. Though she may not realize it, Maxine has a lot in common with Pearl, and those elements may put her into some dark circles.
MaXXXine also stars Kevin Bacon, Halsey, Bobby Cannavale, Elizabeth Debicki, Lily Collins, Giancarlo Esposito, and Michelle Monaghan.
