I have to admit that I kind of forgot about The Snowman. Based on a best-selling novel and directed by Tomas Alfredson, The Snowman was one of those films that I was excited about in January but then, somehow, it continually slipped my mind that it would be coming out later this year.
Luckily, on July 19th, this trailer was released and it reminded me of The Snowman‘s existence! Thank you, trailer!
A serial killer drama, The Snowman stars an appropriately haunted-looking Michael Fassbender. It is scheduled to be released on October 20th, just in time to freak everyone out for Halloween!
Well, look, I’m just going to admit it. I failed you last month. Usually, I try to keep this site up to date with all the best trailers. However, last month, I got very busy with another one of my summer projects and, unfortunately, I ended up running behind on keeping up with all the latest trailers and teasers.
So, if you’ll indulge me a little, I’m going to try to get caught up. Admittedly, some of the trailers that I’m going to share today are going to be old news. But I still want to share them because they’re films that we’re excited about here at the Shattered Lens.
And who knows? Maybe I’m not the only one who had a busy July. Maybe you missed some of these trailers as well.
For instance, check out this teaser for James Franco’s latest film, The Disaster Artist. Now, if you’re like me and you love getting together with friends and tossing around plastic spoons while watching Tommy Wiseau’s The Room, then you can’t wait for the chance to see The Disaster Artist. Telling the true story of Greg Sestero’s friendship with Wiseau and his involvement in the production of The Room, The Disaster Artist was one of the best books of 2014. Rumor has it that The Disaster Artist is also one of the best films of 2017.
If nothing else, James Franco is getting Oscar buzz. If James Franco wins an Oscar for playing Tommy Wiseau, my life will be complete. If it happens, I might even take a year off so that I can bask in the glories of fate.
The teaser below features the filming of one of The Room‘s best-known scenes:
When a former marine is framed for a deadly terrorist bombing, he must track down the mastermind behind the plot. But soon he discovers an even deadlier conspiracy that threatens the nation. One that will force him to choose between the freedom of millions, and his own survival.
Review:
I am going to make this short and sweet:
I love low budget indie films. They are the bread and butter of what I review. Getty somehow manages to pull me in by keeping a torrent pace, which is a good thing. You never really get to focus on what is right in front of you.
The CGI is just what you would expect. The acting, well the same.
Would I recommend this movie?
Let’s grab a few beers, sit down and watch the trailer:
And if you want, I’ll watch the movie with you!
America Has Fallen will be available on VOD July 4th 2017
While Wonder Woman (and, by association, the DCEU) is currently riding high, the MCU has several highly anticipated films coming out later this year and in 2018. One of the most anticipated in Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther. It stars Chadwick Boseman as the title character and it is scheduled to be released on February 16th, 2018.
The first trailer dropped today.
What do you think? Am I the only one who wants to visit Wakanda?
Here’s the trailer for Wind River, a crime thriller that has gotten good reviews at both Sundance and Cannes.
Here are a few things to know about Wind River:
First off, a lot of people are pointing out that it stars two members of the MCU, Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen. At this point, however, the MCU is so big — with the movies and Netflix and the tv shows — that it’s hard to think of a recent or upcomng film that doesn’t feature at least one actor from the MCU. At this point, MCU actors running into each other in non-MCU movies is no longer as big a surprise as it may have once been. It’s kind of unavoidable.
For me, the most intriguing thing about Wind River is that it is the directorial debut of Taylor Sheridan, who previously wrote the amazing screenplays for both Sicario and Hell or High Water. I’ll be curious to see if Sheridan is as good and unpredictable a director as he is a writer.
Ever since the end of the Twilight series, Robert Pattinson has been picking unexpected and edgy projects. And, while there is occasionally a hint of desperation to Pattinson’s picks (“I am not Edward, goddammit!” seems to be the common subtext), it’s also led to him appearing in some genuinely interesting films and proving that, if nothing else, he’s a far better actor than Zac Efron.
(For the record, I still say that Pattinson was brilliantly cast in Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis.)
Here’s the trailer for Pattinson’s latest, Good Time. This film, which takes place over the course of one night, features Pattinson as a career criminal who is desperately trying to put together enough money to get his brother out of prison. Judging from the trailer, this is either going to be really good or a complete mess.
I’ve been hearing rumors that Kirsten Dunst might have an outside chance of getting an Oscar nomination for her performance as a recovering drug addict in the upcoming film, Woodshock.
Well, judging from the trailer below, it’s hard to say for sure. I love this trailer but it seems to indicate that Woodshock is either going to be brilliant or a mess. If nothing else, Kirsten Dunst appears to be playing a character similar to the one that she played in Melancholia. Dunst may have become a star playing a cheerleader in the first Bring It On but her best performances have always been the ones, like Crazy/Beautiful, Melancholia, and perhaps this one, where Dunst has played troubled characters who seem to be lost in the world.
