These snake statues are all over the place at the Dallas Arboretum. I always jump a little whenever I sit down near the waterfall and suddenly see one of them near me.

Yesterday was Texas Independence Day and the armadillo is one of our state’s unofficial mascots. I’ve taken better pictures but armadillos are shy and this is the best one I’ve ever been able to get of one of them. As soon as I snapped this picture, he disappeared into the nearby bushes.
