I just got an e-mail today from “Shout Studios!” that makes me very happy! In 2026, the John Woo / Chow Yun-Fat classics HARD BOILED (1992), A BETTER TOMORROW (1986), and THE KILLER (1989) will be getting extremely limited theatrical releases. If you love these movies as much as I do, or if you want to see some of the greatest action films of all time, I just want to make sure my readers are aware of this incredible opportunity. You can buy your tickets now, and I’ve checked and they’re even playing in Little Rock, Arkansas, so I know they’ll be playing all over the country. The schedule is as follows:
- HARD BOILED – January 25th, 26th and 28th
- A BETTER TOMORROW – March 1st, 2nd, and 4th
- THE KILLER – April 5th, 6th, and 8th
These may be being released during tax season, but I usually take Sundays off and each of these limited windows include a Sunday. YAY!! This is finally my chance to see these iconic films on the big screen! I hope some of you will plan to watch them as well! To whet your appetite, enjoy this incredible action sequence from THE KILLER!
Brilliant films all….I own all of them. I spent a lot of time with Jean-Claude Van Damme over the years – stories I must share one day, but once I congratulated him on “Hard Target” and he said “we can do better!” I thought to myself: um, no you can’t. I have a test print of “Hard Target” before they had to cut it back to get an “R” rating…too much of Woo’s signature two-handed gunplay for the censors apparently.. that cut is SO great

I’ve read some about Van Damme wanting more control over Hard Target, which I always wondered about. You would definitely know more about it than me, but my perception of Van Damme as always been that his ego might have been out of control at this time. And I love Van Damme and his movies, but I’ve always thought that. I would love to see the cut you’re referring to. Woo was at the height of his game in 1993, and I can only imagine how good it had to be. And I like the R-rated cut as well.

Is Regal gonna show them? Hopefully, original language with English subtitles later.

Here’s a link you can use to try to find them in your area. I put my zip code in here in Arkansas and it’s playing in a theater about 7 miles from my house!
