Happy Birthday, Arleigh!

A hushed silence falls over the TSL offices as we come together to celebrate the man who makes all of this possible.

Today is November 27th.

Today is …. ARLEIGH’S BIRTHDAY!

Thirteen years ago (!), Arleigh Sandoc created the site that would become Through the Shattered Lens.  Twelve years ago, he came across me defending Dario Argento on twitter and he asked me if I would like to be a contributor.

Of course, I accepted and I have never looked back.  Over the years, we’ve been joined by other contributors, all of whom have added their voices and made Through the Shattered Lens into what it is today.  It’s been a wonderful ride and I’m looking forward to thirteen more years!  And it all started with Arleigh Sandoc and a review of Avatar!

So, today, let us celebrate!

Celebrate by reading Arleigh’s review of Avatar, the post that launched this site.

And then check out his review A History of Violence!

And his review of Night of the Living Dead!

Want a real blast of nostalgia?  Check out his thoughts on the first episodes of The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones!

Thank you, Arleigh, for the opportunity to be a part of Through the Shattered Lens.  And happy birthday!

Lisa Marie’s Week In Review: 11/14/22 — 11/20/22

Another week at the lake comes to an end.  I’ll be home later today.  While I may not have found enlightenment and while a combination of bad weather and my own klutziness may have kept me inside more than I would have liked, I did get a chance to relax and plan.  And now, I’m ready for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and a happy 2023!

Be sure to wish Erin a happy birthday on the 24th!  She has to share her birthday with Thanksgiving but I’ve always been thankful that she’s my sister so it’s actually really appropriate!

Here’s what I watched this week.  As I said earlier, I didn’t mean to watch this much.  I was planning on enjoying nature and, at the very least, working on my tan.  But this week has been cold, rainy, and cloudy.  But you know what?  I love the rain.

Happy Election Day From The Shattered Lens

To our American readers (and writers), Happy Election Day!

Don’t fear, everyone.  I’m not a Get Out The Vote evangelist.  I think whether or not you cast your vote is your decision and, quite frankly, I think that you can make as legitimate a statement by refusing to vote as you can be casting your vote.  That’s one of the great things about America.  If you dislike all of the candidates, you don’t have to vote for them.  Don’t let tell anyone tell you otherwise.

That said, I vote in every election that I can because I like seeing all of the names on the ballot and, in the end, I do like to have some sort of say in how things go.

Here is TV’s Hank Hill with his thoughts on why you should register to vote.

Happy Election Day, everyone!

Another Halloween has come and gone and with it, another Horrorthon.  We hope you have had a wonderful October and that your November brings you much to be thankful for!

And remember, just because you didn’t see the Great Pumpkin this year, doesn’t mean that he won’t be there for you next October.  I think Linus can explain it best:

To all of our readers and from all of your friends at the Shattered Lens, thank you.

And now, a word from Doc Bowman concerning cats and Halloween….

Hi, everyone!

Doc Bowman here with a very special holiday message!

Tomorrow is Halloween, which my owners — the flame-haired one and the nice one — says is the greatest time of the year!  It’s the time when kids get candy, horror movies are on TV, and my owners get to play dress up or, if it’s anything like last year, barely get dressed at all.

But it’s also a time when stupid people do bad things.  I’m a black cat so both the flame-haired and the nice-one say that I’m not going to be allowed go outside at all tomorrow.  They say it doesn’t matter how much I beg, I’m staying inside.  I know they’re doing the right thing but I’m still going to beg and knock things off of tables and counters because I’m a cat and that’s what I do.  And they’re going to hopefully give me a lot of treats and pet me to keep me happy, even though they’ll probably have to lock me in the flame-haired one’s room to keep me from running for the front door every time they open it for a trick or treater.  That’s just the way thing go at the cat’s house.

Tomorrow night, please make sure that all your pets are safely inside.  It may sound like a silly concern but not everyone out there is as nice and wonderful as my owners and the people who read this site!

Have a safe and happy Halloween everyone!
