Lisa Marie’s Week In Review: 5/30/22 — 6/5/22

On Monday, no sooner had I returned home from my impromptu two-week vacation then I noticed that the main trending topic on Twitter was that Jada Pinkett Smith had “finally” spoken out about The Slap.  Of course, she didn’t really say much beyond her usual “Let the healing begin” crap, which is what people always say when they’re trying to sound mature without actually being an adult about anything.

But what was interesting was that I actually had to remind myself about what The Slap was all about.  I didn’t look at that headline and think to myself, “Finally, she’s speaking up about Will Smith hitting Chris Rock on national television.”  Instead, I was like, “Oh yeah, that happened just a few months ago.”  The news moves fast nowadays.  Celebrity news moves even faster.  For all the drama surrounding The Slap, it really didn’t take long for everyone to move onto the Depp/Heard trial.  And now that the Depp/Heard trial is over, it won’t take long to move onto the next celebrity controversy.

Speaking of celebrities, Senator Dr. Oz is not something that I ever expected to be a serious possibility but here we are.  My fear is that when ever either Cruz or Cornyn retires or moves on to another office, Dr. Phil will throw his hat into the ring to succeed them.  Pretty soon, the entire Senate will be made up of TV doctors and reality show stars.

As for me, I was doing better as far as my back is concerned but then, on Friday, I was out in the backyard when it started to rain.  As I went back to the house, I slipped on a puddle of water.  I didn’t fall but, in the process of not falling, I managed to strain my back yet again!  URGH!  It’s a hard knock life.

Anyway, here’s what I watched, read, and listened to.

Lisa Marie’s Week In Review: 5/23/22 — 5/29/22

Most of this week was spent up in Arkansas, on a little mini-vacation.  It was pretty nice until I found myself standing browsing the aisles of a small store in Ft. Smith on Friday.  That was when I tripped because I was trying to avoid someone who, apparently unaware that there were other people standing behind him, nearly backed into me and I ended up straining my back as a result.  BLEH!  I know that I always say that getting sick or getting injured just means that you have more time to watch movies while you recover but you know what?  That’s mostly wishful thinking on my part.

Lisa Marie’s Week In Review: 5/16/22 — 5/22/22

Most of this week has been spent up at Lake Texoma.  After five months of working, I took a week off and got even more work done than usual.  Seriously, though, it was good to relax.  I’m proud of the reviews I wrote this week and I’m looking forward to giving you more next week!

In other news …. CANNES!  Yes, the Cannes Film Festival has begun.  Cannes is always kind of fun to follow because the big hits at Cannes hardly ever seem to become big hits once they’re released in the U.S.  That said, I usually find myself agreeing more with the Cannes jury than with the American audiences.

Lisa Marie’s Week In Review: 4/18/22 — 4/24/22

Another week, another struggle.

Well, actually, that’s me being a bit overdramatic.  This was not an easy week, mostly because I was feeling awful for most of it.  I wasn’t really depressed and I wasn’t really sick but I felt like I was on the verge of becoming both.  It was just a totally bleh week for me.  Watching Christiane F., one of the most downbeat films ever made, may have been a mistake under the circumstances.  Fortunately, I watched Solarbabies a few nights later and the sight of everyone rolling around the desert on roller skates really brightened my mood.  And then, on Saturday, I watched Vincent Price, Boris Karloff, Jack Nicholson, and Peter Lorre in The Raven and that cheered me up even more.

As for the world of television, I finally got to watch Only Murders In The Buildings and I loved it.  And I also binged the first episodes of Atlanta’s new season and I’m still haunted by the premiere in particular.

Anyway, I’m feeling better just having typed out those few paragraphs.  In other words, I’ll be okay.

Lisa Marie’s Week in Review: 4/11/22 — 4/17/22

This week was all about family.  I spent the holidays with my sisters and I didn’t really watch any movies or …. do anything else for that matter.  But I guess I needed the rest.

I was a bit upset when I discovered that ABC was not showing The Ten Commandments on Saturday.  I may have even sent an angry tweet to my local ABC affiliate about it.  (Okay, I did send it and I was a little bit rude, which I feel bad about.)  Watching the first 30 minutes of The Ten Commandments before leaving for Easter Vigil and then the rest afterwards is a Bowman family tradition!  But this Saturday, a basketball game aired instead and I was not happy.

“BASKETBALL!?” I raged, “How dare they!?”

Anyway, I subsequently discovered that ABC had apparently aired The Ten Commandments last week and I just missed it.  I really didn’t have anyone to blame but myself and I feel kind of bad for yelling at ABC on twitter over it.  To be honest, The Ten Commandments is on Prime so I can watch it whenever I want but I guess I was upset because watching it on TV with commercials is a family tradition and I don’t like change in general.

Anyway, turns out my sister Megan had the movie on DVD so, even as I type this up, my sisters and I are watching Yul Brynner and Charlton Heston in The Ten Commandments!
