Here Are The Winners of 2020 Artios Awards!

Last night, the Casting Society of America handed out the Artios Awards, honoring the best of 2020.  There is no Academy Award for Best Casting, though I definitely think there should be.  (There should also be an award to honor stunt crews as well.)  For that reason, let’s extend a healthy congratulations to last night’s winners!  Casting directors and associates have a very important job that, quite frankly, doesn’t get as much recognition as it deserves.

Artwork of the Day: Her Officer and Gentleman (by Jon Paul)

by Jon Paul

I love a man on horseback, don’t you? This painting was used as the cover of Her Officer and Gentleman, a novel by Karen Hawkins that was first published in 2006. It was a sequel to Her Master and Commander. Both books were about Gentleman James, a highwayman who has just been left a fortune. As you can tell by looking at this painting, he was no ordinary outlaw!

This cover was done by Jon Paul, one of the most renowned cover artists in the field of romance.

Music Video of the Day: Don’t Stand So Close To Me by The Police (1980, directed by Derek Burbidge)

Because Sting was famously a teacher before he became a rock star, it’s easy to assume that this song, about a teacher tempted to have an affair with a student, was autobiographical. Sting insists that it was not, beyond that it was somewhat inspired by the groupies who were, at that time, crazy about The Police.

This video was directed by Derek Burbidge, who also directed several videos for bands like AC/DC, Squeeze, Queen, Gary Numan, The Eurythmics, and Stray Cats. In the early 80s, if you were a successful band looking to get some extra exposure on MTV, it’s extremely probable that Burbidge would have ended up directing a video for you.

Enjoy!
