I haven’t heard much about Helen Alone, beyond the fact that it’s an independent film, it’s the directorial debut of Henrik Bech Poulsen, and it was filmed in my home state of Texas. According to its imdb page, it’s scheduled to be released on August 1st.
And, based on the trailer, I’m looking forward to seeing it. The trailer has a nicely surreal feel to it. As someone who spent her teen years living in the Texas suburbs, there was a lot in this to which I could definitely relate.

Ugh, this trailer really annoys me. A lot of things in it that I can’t stand, pretty much the sort of film that keeps me away from the cinema–bombastic and annoying, full of stupid teens doing stupid teen things.

I’m holding out hope for this film because it’s a local film from a local filmmaker. Well, technically — it’s a Houston film and not a Dallas film so it’s not really local for me but still, I always hope the best for any Texas-made film.

I hold out hope that my home state actually MAKES a film in any given year. Honestly, what the fuck does Arts Victoria do with all of its grant money?
You know, a lot of artists complain about not being recognised, but just look at the millions of bucks wasted on self-deluded fools who make crap. It’s just like artists on drugs: “They only THINK they create better things!”
