The Blair Witch Returns In This Trailer That You May Have Already Seen

So, I’m a little bit late in sharing the trailer for the upcoming film Blair Witch. But better late than never, right?

Normally, I would be dismissive of this film just because it’s another Blair Witch film. However, I am cautiously optimistic because Blair Witch was directed by the one and only Adam Wingard! On the basis of You’re Next and The Guest, I will always be excited to see anything directed by Adam Wingard!

Add to that, Lionsgate deserves a lot of credit for keeping anyone from even knowing this film was even in production until revealing its existence at SDCC last weekend. That’s the sort of marketing genius that deserves to be rewarded!

‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ Comic-Con Trailer!

Above is the new trailer for ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ which finds George Miller returning to “reboot” the ‘Mad Max’ trilogy he wrote and directed almost three decades ago. The film stars Tom Hardy as Max (previously played by Mel Gibson), and the most recent official synopsis is below:

Haunted by his turbulent past, Mad Max believes the best way to survive is to wander alone. Nevertheless, he becomes swept up with a group fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by an elite Imperator, Furiosa (Charlize Theron). They are escaping a Citadel tyrannized by the Immortan Joe, from whom something irreplaceable has been taken. Enraged, the Warlord marshals all his gangs and pursues the rebels ruthlessly in the high-octane Road War that follows.

This thing has been in production since forever and so I for one am SO excited that it is finally here. The ‘Mad Max’ trilogy is my second favorite action franchise behind ‘Lethal Weapon’. The footage has a very visceral high octane tone and the plot and destruction seems on par with ‘The Road Warrior’. The best part of it all of course are the practical effects. Last I heard there were a couple hundred cars and bikes created and destroyed during the films lengthy production, and there is very little CGI (compared at least to most blockbusters).

Pretty safe to say that this is near the top of my most anticipated films of 2015 list. Screw all that DC and Marvel nonsense…GIVE ME ‘FURY ROAD’!

The Walking Dead Season 4 Poster Unveiled

Like the show or not the one thing that The Walking Dead tv series has always had have been some good marketing people. From the marketing leading up to the premiere season and now leading up to it’s upcoming fourth season the show continues to honor it’s comic book legacy.

For the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con spectacle AMC TV and the people behind The Walking Dead tv series have unveiled the SDCC-exclusive poster for the upcoming season. Season 1 saw noted comic book cover artist and illustrator Drew Struzan come up with the exclusive poster. For Season 2 we had another famous comic book illustrator in Tim Bradstreet with the honor. Last year’s Season 3 at SDCC saw Greg Capullo come up with the poster.

For the Season 4 poster that will be given out at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con one of the best cover and comic book illustrators in the business will do the honors. I speak of Alex Ross who has cemented his place in comic book fandom with his work on such comic books as Marvels and Kingdom Come.

While Alex Ross has been known more for his superhero illustrations the fact that he’s doing a horror-themed illustration just shows that the show still continues to remain strong and people continue to want to be involved with it in one fashion or another (or AMC just paid Alex Ross a nice chunk of change).

Let Me In Red Band Trailer and SDCC Exclusive Posters

In 2008 a Swedish film called Let the Right One In stormed through the film festival circuit and became one of the most critically-acclaimed film of that year. The film was an adaptation the a novel by the same name by Swedish author John Ajvide Lindqvist. It took the vampire genre which has started to gain a sort of resurgence in the past 5 years due to the teen-pop vampire-romance franchise Twilight.

Tomas Alfredson’s film was definitely the anti-Twilight of this resurgence. It was a beautifully-shot and framed film with a dark, poignant story to match the visuals. While arthouse film fans and horror fans with discerning taste praised the film the rest of the general public either ignored it or never even heard about it. This is always the case when it comes to foreign films which tries to make a bridgehead onto the U.S. film market.

The film has since been discovered by the general public through home video sales and through Netflix, but not before an American film studio has bought the rights to produce an American remake for the American market. It fell onto the shoulders of Cloverfield director Matt Reeves to film this remake and try to dampen any advance outrage by the original film’s fans. While there will remain a very vocal group denouncing this “Americanized” remake of Let the Right One In (renamed Let Me In for the remake) I think casting decisions and certain stylistic choices by Reeves has me hoping that this remake will not fail but actually stand on it’s own while still letting the original keep it’s status as one of the best horror films of the past decade.

Above is the newly released Red Band Trailer for the film and below are two posters for the remake which were unveiled over at San Diego Comic-Con 2010. Both posters definitely take on a very stylized look. The second one looks too similar to Park Chan-wook’s poster for Thirst. The first one I like better as it combines the film’s innocence with the darker underlying story really well.

SDCC Exclusive: Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch Cast Photos

Zack Snyder’s upcoming dark urban fantasy called Sucker Punch seems tailor-made for the Comic-Con crowd. It stars some of Hollywood’s loveliest young women like Emily Browning, Jena Malone, Abbie Cornish, Vanessa Hudgens and Jamie Chung. It also stars fanboy favorite Carla Gugino who in past genre flicks wasn’t averse to baring it all for the sake of her art.

Sucker Punch has been described by Snyder himself as Alice in Wonderland but with machine guns, not to mention B-52 bombers, dragons, brothels. From some of the sneak-peeks into the production this particular Alice-themed flick also has zombie soldiers, a mecha-suit with a pink bunny painted on the armor not to mention some steampunk added into the mix.

Just in time for this year’s Comic-Con, Warner Brothers has released for this event some very great and stunning character posters. I am actually very curious as to which artist painted and created these character posters since they’re truly gorgeous. If I only had room in my room’s walls to frame and put them up.I also like the little details in the posters. I had to stifle a silly grin after I noticed the charms hanging off of Babydoll’s automatic pistol.

Drew Struzan Does Walking Dead plus Cast Photos

Drew Struzan.

That name alone will bring big smiles and goofy grins to film geeks and comic book fanboys the world over. Struzan has been one of the go-to artists when a studio wants a beautifully painted poster for their film. He’s done poster artwork for some of the most iconic films of the last 50 years. He’s done all the poster work for the Indiana Jones and Star Wars franchise. Of late he’s done some great work on film posters for the Harry Potter and Hellboy franchises.

In 2007 he created some wonderful poster art for a scene early in Frank Darabont’s film adaptation of the Stephen King novella, The Mist. Struzan also created a poster for that film. He and Darabont have been close friends so it wasn’t much of a surprise that Struzan would end up creating a film-style poster for Darabont’s tv adaptation of the fan-favorite and critical darling comic book series, Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead. The poster below is being premiered and given out by AMC at SDCC (San Diego Comic-Con) 2010 as part of their promotion for the series to premiere this October on AMC. In addition to the Struzan poster AMC has also released individual photos of each cast member as their characters in the show plus two pictures of zombies who will populate the series. The actors really do a good job of becoming like their characters in these photos. The zombie pictures really show just why Greg Nicotero and his KNB Effects are the preeminent people when it comes to creating zombie make-up effects. These zombies look great and definitely reinforces the point that AMC will not waterdown the comic book for tv. Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes for some reason really resembles Viggo Mortensen in his character photo.
