Bonus Horror Song of the Day: Season of the Witch by Donovan
Since I’m going to be rewatching Suspiria in a few hours, it only seems appropriate to share what may be the most famous (and perhaps the most covered) song about witchcraft, Donavon’s Season of the Witch!
This song was originally recorded in 1966 and it’s gone on to become a Halloween mainstay. One fan of the song was future director Martin Scorsese, who originally planned to borrow the song’s title for one of his own films. However, George Romero beat Scorsese out the gate with a film called Season of the Witch and Scorsese ended up renaming his film, Mean Streets.
Horror Song of The Day: Main Theme From Suspiria by Goblin
Suspiria (1977, dir by Dario Argento, DP: Luciano Tovoli)
You knew this was coming!
Today’s horror song of the day is the classic main theme to Dario Argento’s Suspiria! (The Argento version is the only version that matters.) The iconic soundtrack was composed by Goblin. I saw an interview with Claudio Simonetti in which he said he wanted the song to be “almost annoying” in its intensity. While I could never be annoyed this song, I do understand Simonetti’s point. The score is designed to be as overwhelming as the evil at the center of the film.

Music Video of the Day: Aquamarine by Addison Rae (2024, dir by Sean Price Williams)
This video has a decadent feel to it, one that makes it perfect for the scary season. It may not be about vampires but perhaps it should be.

Bonus Song of the Day: The Love Boat, performed by Jack Jones
It’s not a horror song but, considering the amount of hours that I’ve devoted to The Love Boat over the last two years, there was no way that I couldn’t take a moment to acknowledge Jack Jones, the singer who sang the show’s iconic theme song. Jones passed away on Wednesday at the age of 86. But his voice will live on.
Now, let’s set sail for adventure….
Horror Song of the Day: Main Theme From Prince of Darkness by John Carpenter
Today’s horror song of the day comes from the great John Carpenter!
Here is the main theme from his criminally underrated 1987 film, The Prince of Darkness. Carpenter is really fortunate in that he not only has a vision but he also has the talent to create the music to go along with that vision.
Music Video of the Day: The Valley by Bill Wyman and Terry Taylor (1985, dir by Michele Soavi)
Today’s music video of the day is for an instrumental piece that was composed by Bill Wyman and Terry Taylor for Dario Argento’s 1985 film, Phenomena.
Put together by Michele Soavi, this music video features not only scenes from the film but also clips of Dario Argento directing both Jennifer Connelly and Fiore Argento. Soavi, of course, went on to have a directorial career of his own, directing four classic horror films before stepping away from feature films to take care of his ailing son. Soavi has since returned to directing, though most of his subsequent work has been for Italian television.

Bonus Horror Song of the Day: Demon by Claudio Simonetti
Demons (1985, dir by Lamberto Bava)
For today’s bonus song of the day, we have Demon, a track from the soundtrack for the 1985 film, Demons. This song was composed and performed by Claudio Simonetti, who is best known as the keyboardist of Goblin.
The music video, incidentally, was directed by Michele Soavi, who also appeared in Demons as the mysterious masked man handing out free movie tickets.
Horror Song of the Day: Profondo Rosso by Goblin
Today’s horror song of the day comes from Dario Argento’s Deep Red!
Deep Red features the first collaboration between Argento and Goblin and the score remains a classic and one that I listen to every October.
Here’s Goblin performing Profondo Rosso on Italian television in 1975.
Music Video of the Day: Danse Macabre by Duran Duran (2023, dir by ????)
Today’s music video of the day is for the title track of Duran Duran’s 2023 Halloween-themed album. It’s a good video, one that gives off a definite Tim Burton Before He Want Hollywood sort of feel.
All bands should put out special Halloween albums and videos. It would certainly make my job a lot easier.
