Lisa’s Week In Review: 3/4/19 — 3/10/19

Reset your clocks

I swear, I don’t know if I was just in a down mood or if last week really was as bad as I thought it was but I feel like I’ve aged a year over the previous seven days.  For Lent, I gave up excessive negativity so I’m not going to dwell on it.  Instead, I’m just going to happily say that the week is over and a new one is about to begin!

Actually, now that I think about it, all the blame can probably be put on Daylight Savings Time.  Giving up an hour of your life is never easy.  On the plus side, for the first time since last November, the clock in my office is now correct.

Lisa’s Week In Review: 2/25/19 — 3/3/19

I don’t know what happened to me this week.  I was planning on doing a lot of stuff but, to be honest, I spent the last seven days in kind of an unfocused fog….

Well, to be honest, I do know what part of the problem was.  I twisted my ankle on Tuesday night but I didn’t really realize it until I woke up on Wednesday morning and I discovered that I could barely walk.  So, I spent the last few days limping and in great pain and that kind of distracted me from doing some stuff.  WHICH SUCKED!  But, on the plus side, it’s better now.

Anyway, as I write this, it’s 22 degrees outside.  If it somehow snows this upcoming week, I’ll probably run outside and have great fun and probably end up twisting my ankle for second time.

Have a good and productive week everyone!  Enjoy Mardi Gras, in whatever way you chose to celebrate.  As for Lent — well, I am giving something up but I haven’t decided what yet.  I’ve got it narrowed down to like four different things but it’s hard for me to imagine giving any of them up so I may start smoking tomorrow and then give up cigarettes on Wednesday.  We’ll see.

CRV’s Random Thoughts On Last Night’s Oscars!

gary loggins's avatarcracked rear viewer

As Alfred Hitchcock (who never won an Oscar!) used to say, “Good ev-en-ing”. Since the Academy Awards ran a little late last night, and I had to get up early to work a twelve-hour shift, I had no time to prepare a post about last night’s ceremony. I know it’s kinda late news already, so I’ve assembled a list of some  Random Thoughts On Last Night’s Oscars for your amusement and edification! Hang on, here we go:

  • If the Academy wants to cut down on show length, I suggest they get rid of the vapid Red Carpet crap and start the ceremony at 7:00 EST. Hey, some of us poor schmucks have to get up in the morning!
  • Who needs a host when you’ve got Queen kicking things off?
  • That opening montage of 2018 movies was pretty stunning work. Thanks for including STAN & OLLIE , even though your silly…

Lisa’s Week In Review: 2/11/19 — 2/17/19

So, my week was fantastic!  Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite holidays and this year, Jeff & I celebrated by going to see Casablanca at the Dallas Angelika.  Seriously, as good as Casablanca is, it’s even better when seen in a real movie theater.  The intrigue, the romance, the grandeur of sacrifice, the beauty of Ingrid Bergman, the rough charisma of Humphrey Bogart, the decadence of Claude Rains, Casablanca remains one of the best movies ever made!

Of course, with it being Valentine’s Day, I also performed my annual Nobody Does It Better/All Time High medley.  (Okay, it’s only the 2nd year that I’ve done it but I think it’s going to become an annual tradition.)  And then today, because it’s like freezing outside, I spent the day under a bunch of blankets and watching James Bond movies on Netflix!

As for this upcoming week …. it’s Oscar week!  Hopefully, in the days leading up to Sunday’s telecast, I’ll be able to post some Oscar-related things.  To be honest, the new year never really starts for me until after the Oscars.

Here’s my hope!  I hope that 2019 will be great for me and that, through our own small way here at the TSL, we’ll be able to help make it great for you as well!  Thank you everyone for reading and commenting.  Let’s make this week a great one, shall we?

Happy Valentine’s Day From The Shattered Lens!

From the humans and the cat at the Shattered Lens to all of you, happy Valentine’s Day!

Some people, like the flame-haired one, love this day while the others, like almost all of the silly humans on twitters, hate this day.  Of course, if you’re a cat, every day is Valentine’s Day!

Whether you’re celebrating, observing, or denouncing this day, here’s hoping that it’s a good one for you and all of your loved ones!

As they say in the homeland, “Is tú mo ghrá!”

Lisa’s Week In Review: 2/4/19 — 2/10/19

My favorite scene from All About Eve

That was quite a week that we just went through, wasn’t it?  Basically, for any future historians who have come across this post as a part of a research product, the week pretty much started out normally enough, with the President giving his annual State of the Union speech, and then, with each passing day, things all across this country just got more and more batshit crazy.  This was the week that proved that it’s a strange world.

Lisa’s Week In Review: 1/21/19 — 1/27/19

For the rest of eternity, this week will be known as my Red Dawn week.

And, oh my God, what a week it was!  It’s not just that I came down with a pretty bad cold on Thursday and I’ve spent the past 4 days on curled up on my couch, feeling bitchy and miserable.  It’s not just that the Oscar noms were kinda disappointing.  It’s also that the news from the rest of the world was so annoying as well.  Between the kickoff of the 2020 Presidential campaign, the now temporarily resolved government shutdown and the media screwing up the Covington Catholic story, is it any wonder that I watched the original Red Dawn not once but twice this weekend?

Seriously, I don’t even like violence but, after a week like this one, there’s something cathartic about watching people blow stuff up.

Last year, it was (among others) Don Gordon, Skip Homeier, Tobe Hooper, and Anne Jeffreys; the year before Gloria DeHaven, Madeleine LeBeau, William Schallert, Robert Vaughn… I get it. You’ve got to save time for those great “comedy” bits that Bob Hope wouldn’t touch with a ten-foot ski pole and lame musical production numbers, not to mention giving time for everyone to make their obligatory political statements. That’s why I put so much time and effort into my own yearly ‘In Memoriam’ tributes, so those you give short shrift to won’t be forgotten.

Orson Welles’ “The Other Side of the Wind”

But to completely…
