Artist Profile: Boris Vallejo (1941– )


BarbarellaBorn in Peru, Boris Vallejo started painting when he was 13 and got his first professional illustration job at the age of 16.  He emigrated to the United States in 1964.  Vallejo is best known for his fantasy-themed artwork, which often features characters based on both himself and his wife, artist Julie Bell.

  1. One of my favorite fantasy artists. I was fortunate enough to have met and spoken both with him and Julie Bell when I used to attened San Diego Comic-Con in the mid-90’s. Around that time people actually attended such things for all things comic book and art related.

    One thing I remember best is just how muscled Vallejo which goes towards why he used himself as a model for his own paintings.
