That is probably the worst possible way to try to deliver someone a gun. By the time the gun does arrive at the D.A.’s office, there’s going to be so many tags and fingerprints on it that it’s going to be worthless as evidence.

The Covers of Lariat
Running from 1925 to 1951, Lariat was one of the many western magazines of the pulp era. At the time, it published stories and novellas about the men and the women who conquered the old west. Today, issues are sought by collectors who appreciate the magazine’s tough, colorful, and often violent covers. Some of the best artists of the pulp era did covers for Lariat.

While recently looking through some old pulp covers, I couldn’t help but notice a recurring theme.
Flight attendants!
During the pulp era, flight attendants were apparently a popular subject. Whether they were thwarting hijackings or trying to land the perfect pilot husband, flight attendants lived dramatic, exciting, and sexy lives! It was enough to make me wonder if maybe I made a mistake when I decided that I didn’t want to go to grow up and be a flight attendant. (I was ten so what did I know?)

The Adventurous Covers of Action Stories

Action Stories was published from 1921 to 1950. It specialized in action-packed stories about men doing manly things and women who knew how to handle a rifle. Despite the dinosaur featured in the cover above, Action Stories was known for usually turning down horror and fantasy-themed stories and instead specializing in westerns, war stories, and sports fiction. Among the writers that were published by Action Stories: Robert E. Howard, Walt Coburn, Morgan Robertson, Horace McCoy, Theodore Roscoe, Greye La Spina, Anthony M. Rud, Thomas Thursday and Les Savage, Jr.

The Ultra Manly Covers of Man’s Life

From the 1950s through the early 70s, Man’s Life was “the action magazine for men.” Or, at least, that’s what it claimed on the covers. Judging from these covers, a man’s life back in the 20th century consisted of 1) fighting wild animals, 2) getting attacked by woman who had forgotten to button up their shirts, and 3) standing up for truth, justice, and the American way.
Here are a few of the extremely manly covers of Man’s Life. Be sure to check out the headlines too because some of them are certainly interesting.
