For today’s song of the day, we have a piece from James Horner’s score for Apollo 13.
Since I just reviewed the final Tattoo episode of Fantasy Island, let’s say goodbye with today’s song of the day.
In 1981, at the height of Fantasy Island’s popularity, Villechaize released a song called “Why?” It’s all about trying to understand why people have to fight and why people cannot just accept the wisdom of peace-loving children. The video at the top of this post was recorded for a TV show on which Villechaize appeared. Unfortunately, I don’t know which show it was for and the video upload itself is not the best quality. Apparently, the split-screen visual effect that gives us two Herves singing at once was a part of the show.
That said, why do we always have to fight?
I’m currently watching Roger Corman’s Attack of the Crab Monsters and this classic song popped into my head.
It wasn’t difficult to pick today’s song of the day. Here is the National Anthem, performed not by the usual highly-paid celebrities but instead, by the class of 2012 at my old high school. I think they did a great job!
I hope all my friends up north had a happy Canada Day!
In keeping with my theme of celebrating Arkansas in pop culture today, I’ve chosen superstar Glen Campbell and one of his classic hits for my song of the day. Campbell was born in Billstown, Arkansas, which is about 20 miles from where our kids were raised in Southwest Arkansas. I know several members of his family, and they are so proud of Glen. And why shouldn’t they be?! From cranking out hit records to starring in the movie version of a great work of Arkansas literature, TRUE GRIT, Campbell is a one-of-a-kind talent, and all of Arkansas is proud to call him our own! Enjoy my friends!
We’ll be coming into Los Angeles in another 12 hours or so. And then, it’ll be onto Dallas. It was a good vacation but I’m definitely ready to jump back into things. I have to say thank you to my fellow writers here at the Shattered Lens and especially my wonderful sister, the one and only Dazzling Erin Nicole, for keeping the site thriving while I was gone.
Here’s today’s song of the day. For the record, I will not be bringing in a couple of keys. I still love Arlo, though!

RIP, Rebekah Del Rio.
