The second Marvel Pictures superhero is plain and simply the awesome Asgard Thunder God himself. Thor is the Kenneth Branagh directed adaptation which will help tie-in with the rest of the Marvel Pictures produced superhero hero film of the last 3 years.
The Super Bowl tv spot shows new scenes in addition to those already shown in the official trailer released a couple months ago. This tv spot is all about Chris Hemsworth being Thor. There’s action sequences involving him battling Odin’s weapon of mass destruction in The Destroyer in what’s probably a town in New Mexico. We don’t see much of any of the other Asgardians like Loki, Sif, The Warriors Three and Heimdall.
Of all the superhero films Marvel has been working on since they decided to handle making films of their comic book properties this one has to be the wild-card of the bunch with the highest chance of failing. So far, the hype for the film has been even with many loving what they’ve seen, so far. Then there are those who seem to be hating what they’ve seen, so far. We’ll see on May 6, 2011 which side ends up being correct.
I think I’ll enjoy this one b/c it looks so silly.

So, why is it that other countries get to see it a week or so before we do? I think they did this with Ironman too, right? What’s the stupid, idiotic thought process behind that one? I probably wouldn’t be so ticked about it if one of the countries that are getting it first wasn’t France. Anyways, I’ll likely check this out, even if you tell me to avoid it like the plague down the road.

Always hard when I talk about comic book adaptations like this where I have not actually read any of the source material and know very little about the character. I have to base my opinion on that little information I do have of the story, along with the cast and crew. So far, I really like what I’m seeing. Besides a fairly decent cast I’m also very excited to see what Kenneth Branagh will do with the film. Some call him an odd choice but I certainly disagree. If he brings that sort of Shakespearian vibe to this character, something that I think could work, then it could be one of the more interesting adaptations to come out in recent years. I’m a little worried as to how the story will play out. I’m hoping it doesn’t start with him on what ever his “home planet” is, and then cast out onto earth where they show him basically powerless without his hammer until the end where he finds it and THEN starts kicking ass. We shall see.

Well, from glimpses of early script drafts I’ve seen it’s a major origin story with hints of what Marvel has plans for the character aka Avengers will be hinted at. Since you’re not too aware of the original source material Asgard not a home planet but a sort of alternate location from which advanced human beings have lived. Asgardians not really gods but a separate branch of humanity whose civilization and tech makes them appear godlike to the humans below.
