Here’s The Latest Trailer For Black Widow!

The Black Widow in happier times

As I’ve said before, both on this site and on twitter, I have mixed feeling about the upcoming Black Widow film. On the one hand, Natasha was my favorite member of the Avengers and I’m glad that she’s finally getting a solo film. On the other hand, it annoys me that she’s only getting a solo film after being killed off in Avengers: Endgame. Don’t even get me started on the screwed-up logic of her sacrificing her life when Clint was the one who had basically spent 5 years killing everyone that he met. Natasha may have made mistakes when she was a spy but at least she was never a serial killer!

Apparently, the Black Widow solo film takes place in between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War and it seems very likely that it’s also going to serve as an origin story for a character played by Florence Pugh, who may end up becoming the new Black Widow. I hope that’s not true but, from what I’ve heard, it seems probable. I’m not particularly excited about the prospect of that happening. I don’t want a replacement Black Widow. I want the original to come back to life and I want Clint to do the right thing.

To be honest, though, I’m now at a point where I just want to see the damn movie. That release date has been moved around so much that I no longer care whether or not the film’s any good or not. I don’t care whether or not they’re going to do the right thing and resurrect Natasha from the dead. I JUST WANT TO SEE THE DAMN MOVIE! Hell, I’ll even spend the extra 30 to see it in Disney Plus, I don’t care. I JUST WANT TO SEE THE MOVIE!

Anyway, with all that in mind, Black Widow is going to be released on July 9th and it’s about time! Here’s the latest trailer:

Here’s The Trailer For The Mitchells vs. The Machines!

Amazingly enough, on the exact same day that I reviewed all three of the original Robocop films, Netflix has dropped a trailer for its upcoming animated film, The Mitchells vs. the Machines! This is a film about a family on a road trip who find themselves in the middle of the …. ROBOT APOCALYPSE!

Seriously, I’m hoping for more Robot Apocalypse films. I think the Zombie Apocalypse has been played out while there’s still plenty left to do with the Robot Apocalypse. I mean, I know that The Terminator franchise is all about a robot apocalypse but that’s just one franchise. There’s hundreds of zombie apocalypse films released every month so I think there’s definitely room for at least a few more films about people trying to survive being stalked by robots.

For that reason, I’m hoping that The Mitchells vs. The Machines is a big success!

This film drops on April 30th on Netflix! Here’s the trailer:

Here’s The Trailer For Percy vs Goliath!

Christopher Walken vs. Zach Braff? Gee, who’s going to win that fight?

Actually, we’ll never know because, in this upcoming film Percy vs Goliath, Walken and Braff are actually allies. Walken plays an aging farmer who gets sued by a gigantic corporation and who appeals the case all the way to the Supreme Court. Braff plays his attorney. Christina Ricci plays an environmental activist. This is based on a true story and it sounds like the type of film that’s usually promoted for the Oscars. That said, that April 30th release date indicates that this is not being set up as an Oscar film.

Myself, I’m just interested in seeing Christopher Walken in a lead role for once. As of late, he’s mostly done quirky supporting turns. I’m also glad to see Christina Ricci in another movie because she doesn’t really seem to get as much work as her talent warrants. As for Zach Braff …. to be honest, I actually thought he was Ray Romano when the trailer began. That said, I will let you in on a little secret. I actually kind of liked Garden State.

Anyway, here’s the trailer for Percy vs Goliath!

Here’s The Trailer For The Resort

“And the most shocking thing of all is how their stay in paradise will end!”

That line was used at the end of the introduction for the first season of Paradise Hotel. Paradise Hotel, of course, was the greatest reality show ever made. Or at least, the first season was. (The second and especially the third seasons were a bit less interesting.) Basically, a bunch of good-looking, extremely shallow people moved into a huge hotel on a beautiful island and they were told that they would have to hook up with someone every week. If they didn’t and ended the week single, they would be kicked out of paradise. The people who managed to survive the entire season without getting kicked out of paradise would then have the opportunity to win the big prize. The funny thing was that no one knew what the big prize was. Naturally, this led to a lot of speculation until it was ultimately revealed that they were competing for a cash prize that was significantly lower than the prizes offered on Big Brother and Survivor. Again, it was a totally shallow show but it was also a lot of fun. Nearly everyone was easy on the eyes and really, that was the main reason we were watching.

I found myself thinking about Paradise Hotel as I watched the trailer for The Resort, not because the characters are shallow or anything like that but just because the people in the trailer obviously don’t know how their stay in paradise is going to end. I also found myself thinking about The Chernobyl Diaries and all of the other horror movies that have centered around the natural desire to go some place that you’re not actually allowed to visit. A lot of people will watch a movie like this and say, “Well, it was stupid of them to get in that situation!” but personally, there’s no way I would turn down the chance to explore a deserted luxury resort. Seriously, if you tell me I can spend a night in haunted hotel, I’m going to do it. Of course, I don’t believe in ghosts so I guess it would be easier for me to do that than someone who did. Still, my point stands. The reason why we find it so egregious when people in horror movies do stupid things is because, secretly, we all know we would do the exact same thing.

Anyway, with all that said, here’s the trailer for The Resort, which is due to be released on April 30th!

Here’s The Trailer For Zola

Just a few days ago, I was wondering what happened to Zola.

Zola, as you may remember, made a big splash at last year’s Sundance Film Festival. It’s based on a twitter thread, made up of 148 tweets, about a trip that someone claimed to have taken to Florida with a stripper. The trip involved prostitution, murder, and attempted suicide and it was later determined that the majority of the thread was a lie or, at the very least, seriously embellished. Still, it got enough attention to lead to a movie, one that was originally going to be directed by James Franco before he left the project and was replaced by Janicza Bravo. A24 picked up Zola at Sundance and, at the time, I remember that there were a lot of people who were predicting that Zola would be the film of 2020. Then the Pandemic hit and Zola kinda disappeared.

Well, it looks like Zola is finally going to get released. The trailer dropped today and the film has a release date of June 30th. I have to admit that I as I watched the trailer, I was a little bit torn. On the one hand, it looked like a typical A24 film. (I remember when the film was purchased, there were more than a few critics who complained about the fact that every year, A24 releases another psychotic road trip film.) On the other hand, I know people just like the character played Riley Keough. Just from what we see in the trailer, it appears that she got this character down perfectly. As anyone who has seen American Honey can attest, Riley Keough is a talented performer who deserves to be better known.

Add to that, if they’re going to turn a twitter thread into a movie, I’d much prefer it be this one as opposed to that twitter thread about the writer who claimed that a bunch of gangsters were trying to kill him because he accidentally insulted his weed guy. What was that all about? Of course, there’s always a risk that, if Zola does too well, every twitter thread will suddenly become a potential film pitch and I think that’s probably going to lead to twitter getting even more performative than it is now. The best threads are the ones that feature animals looking shocked over mundane things. Someone needs to make a movie out of that.

Anyway, here’s the trailer for Zola:

Here’s The Trailer For Spiral: From The Book of Saw!

Casting Chris Rock in a Saw film still feels strange to me but it’s not quite as a strange as the fact that Saw franchise is apparently still a thing. Unlike the majority of the characters who have appeared in the Saw films, this franchise appears to be immortal. I have a feeling that long after we’re all gone and we’ve been replaced by a new generation of film watcher and film reviewers, a new Saw film will still come out every few years. Eventually, no one will be able to follow the plot but it won’t matter. All that’ll matter will be seeing who loses an arm.

Anyway, the latest Saw is called Spiral: From The Book of Saw, which is a rather unwieldy title. When this movie was first announced it was just called Spiral but I guess someone realized that they needed to make it clear that this film is a part of the Saw Cinematic Universe.

(For the records, the SCU existed long before the MCU and it proved that audiences would spend money to watch sequels that were basically impossible to follow if you didn’t already know the backstory. So, you could argue that the MCU owes a lot to the success of the Saw films.)

Here’s the trailer for Spiral. Spiral will be released in May so get ready!

Here’s The Trailer for The Night House!

Well, this looks super creepy, doesn’t it?

Plus, it stars Rebecca Hall!  I’ll watch anything with Rebecca Hall in it.  Well, almost anything.  Now that I think about it, she’s appeared in some films that I didn’t really care for but she still always gave a good performance and it really does seem like she should be a bigger star for now.  So, let’s hope The Night House is a success!

The Night House premieres on July 16th!  Here’s the trailer:

Here’s The Trailer for Wrath of Man!

Finally, something to look forward to!

Guy Ritchie and Jason Statham are teaming up for an action revenge thriller, in which Statham kills a lot of of people.  That’s really all I can tell from the trailer for Wrath of Man but really, all you need to know is that it’s Ritchie and Statham.

It’s amazing to think that there was once a time when I didn’t like Jason Statham.  What was I thinking?  I was probably just being a film snob.  Today, of course, I realize that he’s the closest thing we’ve got to an old school action hero.  Decades from now, people will be doing memes about how tough 90 year-old Jason Statham still is.  Who would win in a fight between Jason Statham and Liam Neeson?  Neeson, but only becuase Statham would take pity on him and allow him to win.  Jason Statham’s cool like that.

Here’s the trailer for Wrath of Man.  It premieres on May 7th!

Here’s The Red Band Trailer For The Suicide Squad

Earlier today, the red band trailer for The Suicide Squad was released!

It’s always kind of funny to me how excited some people get over red band trailers, when essentially red band trailers are just the same as regular trailers.  The main difference is that you get to hear people curse but is that really that exotic?  Red band trailers always remind me of a little kid trying to impress everyone by dropping the f-bomb.  I mean, we all already knew that The Suicide Squad was R-rated, right?  Maybe it’s just that I’ve seen so many Italian horror trailers that everything now seems tame by comparison.  I mean, once you’ve seen the trailer for Zombie Holocaust, it’s hard to be shocked.

Anyway, people with far more knowledge of The Suicide Squad than me are excited about this trailer so I will refrain from being too critical.  I mean, the trailer gets the job done.  If you were excited to see The Suicide Squad, I imagine that you’re still excited.  I think the only recent trailers that actively turned people from seeing a films that they might otherwise see were the trailers for Ghostsbusters and Cats.

Myself, I’m just looking forward to seeing what James Gunn does with the material.

Anyway, here’s the trailer!

Here’s The Latest Teaser For The Falcon and The Winter Soldier!

Here’s the latest teaser/trailer for The Falcon and The Winter Solider.  This show will begin streaming on March 19th, at which point we’ll see if it’s destined to become a pop culture phenomena like WandaVision or if it’s going to go the route of Netflix’s Marvel shows.

Judge for yourself:
