Lisa’s Week In Review: 3/18/19 — 3/24/19

Bleh.  I might to watch a lot of movies and write a lot of reviews today but, as I sit here writing this, I am currently so sick that even looking at the glowing screen of my laptop gives my motion sickness.  Like seriously, I had to take a Dramamine just to be able to move the arrow across the screen.  Hopefully, I’ll be a bit better tomorrow.

Tragically, we lost both John Carl Buechler and Larry Cohen this week.  Buechler’s audio commentary for Friday the 13th Part VIII, which he recorded with Kane Hodder, is a favorite of mine.  As for Larry Cohen, he was a true maverick and his independent spirit represented the best of American cinema.  My favorite Cohen film?  God Told Me To.

Lisa’s Week In Review: 3/11/19 — 3/17/19

Happy St. Patrick’s Day, everyone!

Another week comes to a close and what a week it was.  It started with celebrities bribing colleges to ensure that their children were accepted and it ended with James Gunn getting his old job back.  For one group of students, Spring Break has ended and, for another, it has just begun.  And I can hear the voice out there, all asking, “Lisa, when are you reviewing Captain Marvel!?”  Next week, I promise.

As for today, it’s St. Patrick’s Day.  Among his many accomplishments, St. Patrick banished all of the snakes from Ireland.  Some people will tell you that there were never snakes in Ireland to begin with but those people would never have the courage to say that to St. Patrick’s face.

Reset your clocks

I swear, I don’t know if I was just in a down mood or if last week really was as bad as I thought it was but I feel like I’ve aged a year over the previous seven days.  For Lent, I gave up excessive negativity so I’m not going to dwell on it.  Instead, I’m just going to happily say that the week is over and a new one is about to begin!

Actually, now that I think about it, all the blame can probably be put on Daylight Savings Time.  Giving up an hour of your life is never easy.  On the plus side, for the first time since last November, the clock in my office is now correct.

Lisa’s Week In Review: 2/25/19 — 3/3/19

I don’t know what happened to me this week.  I was planning on doing a lot of stuff but, to be honest, I spent the last seven days in kind of an unfocused fog….

Well, to be honest, I do know what part of the problem was.  I twisted my ankle on Tuesday night but I didn’t really realize it until I woke up on Wednesday morning and I discovered that I could barely walk.  So, I spent the last few days limping and in great pain and that kind of distracted me from doing some stuff.  WHICH SUCKED!  But, on the plus side, it’s better now.

Anyway, as I write this, it’s 22 degrees outside.  If it somehow snows this upcoming week, I’ll probably run outside and have great fun and probably end up twisting my ankle for second time.

Have a good and productive week everyone!  Enjoy Mardi Gras, in whatever way you chose to celebrate.  As for Lent — well, I am giving something up but I haven’t decided what yet.  I’ve got it narrowed down to like four different things but it’s hard for me to imagine giving any of them up so I may start smoking tomorrow and then give up cigarettes on Wednesday.  We’ll see.

Lisa’s Week In Review: 2/11/19 — 2/17/19

So, my week was fantastic!  Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite holidays and this year, Jeff & I celebrated by going to see Casablanca at the Dallas Angelika.  Seriously, as good as Casablanca is, it’s even better when seen in a real movie theater.  The intrigue, the romance, the grandeur of sacrifice, the beauty of Ingrid Bergman, the rough charisma of Humphrey Bogart, the decadence of Claude Rains, Casablanca remains one of the best movies ever made!

Of course, with it being Valentine’s Day, I also performed my annual Nobody Does It Better/All Time High medley.  (Okay, it’s only the 2nd year that I’ve done it but I think it’s going to become an annual tradition.)  And then today, because it’s like freezing outside, I spent the day under a bunch of blankets and watching James Bond movies on Netflix!

Lisa’s Week In Review: 2/4/19 — 2/10/19

My favorite scene from All About Eve

That was quite a week that we just went through, wasn’t it?  Basically, for any future historians who have come across this post as a part of a research product, the week pretty much started out normally enough, with the President giving his annual State of the Union speech, and then, with each passing day, things all across this country just got more and more batshit crazy.  This was the week that proved that it’s a strange world.
