When is a step out of the nest anything but?
How about — when a TV series does an “offbeat” episode (a very relative term here, I realize, as the entire show is “offbeat” in the extreme) where no one leaves the house?
Which isn’t, mind you, to say that “not a lot happens” — or your preferred alternative turn of phrase essentially describing the same thing — in “Therapy Patrol,” the seventh installment of the DC Universe original streaming series Doom Patrol. Quite a lot does — in terms of development, disintegration, and re-development of team dynamics, fleshing out key character “backstories” even more, etc. There’s no visible villain on offer, though (even if Mr. Nobody’s presence continues to loom large and, in a very real sense, informs everything that happens), Timothy Dalton’s “Chief” Niles Caulder remains conspicuous by his absence, and yeah — more or…

There’s a lot of good things to say about this video. Beyond the fact that I like the song, I also enjoy seeing all of the different people who run off with the camera. This video has a lot of energy and it’s just a lot of fun to watch. Visually, it’s a perfect fit for the music.
But, honestly, the main reason that I love this video is that Calvin and Ellie are just amazingly, incredibly adorable together! Usually, whenever I see a video about a couple in love, I always assume that one of them has died and the survivor is now remembering all of the good times. But, in this case, I chose to believe that Calvin and Ellie’s characters not only survived the video but that they stayed together.
(Of course, in real life, Calvin Harris was dating Rita Ora when this video came out.)
Enjoy!
I thought I’d seen all the 70’s Kung-Fu movie greats – Bruce Lee , Jackie Chan , Jim Kelly , Sonny Chiba – but I’d never even heard of Ron Van Clief until I watched BLACK DRAGON’S REVENGE. Guess his films never played at my neighborhood Grindhouse, which is a shame, because Mr. Van Clief is one serious ass-kicker! The former Marine, Vietnam vet, NYC cop, and multiple-time martial arts champion starred in a series of action-packed films showcasing his dazzling technique, and BLACK DRAGON’S REVENGE makes for one helluva introduction.
Dig those crazy 70’s sideburns!
No, BLACK DRAGON’S REVENGE is not a sequel to Bela Lugosi’s 1942 Monogram flick BLACK DRAGONS, but a continuation of the badass character Van Clief played in his film debut, 1974’s BLACK DRAGON. Here, Van Clief is sent by an Exploitation film producer from San Francisco to Hong Kong to investigate the death of…

Someday, when the humans sit down and try to figure out what led to the cats losing all respect for them and subsequently conquering the world, it will be because of days like this. It’s April Fools Day, a day when people express their love for each other by playing mean jokes and telling viscous lies. Today, thousands of people will briefly think they’ve gotten a promotion at work. Others will celebrate the news of an unexpected pregnancy or they’ll be shocked to learn that their cousin got married over the weekend. There’s going to be a lot of drama and, in the end, it’ll all end with someone yelling “April Fools!” That’s supposed to make it all okay.
Today will be a day of hurt feelings and anger so we here at the Shattered Lens suggest that you spend today watching a movie. Actually, we suggest that you watch at least four movies. Maybe even five. Just watch however many movies you need to watch in order to ensure that you have an excuse not to interact with anyone today. Stay off social media. Avoid twitter. For the love of God, don’t go anywhere near Facebook. Turn off your phone and don’t check your email.
Just watch the movies and make sure that your cat is properly taken care of. If ever there’s a day that should make you appreciate the straight-forward pragmatism of a cat, it should be today. In this history of this cursed holiday, no cat has ever been an April fool. To be an April fool, you have to make the mistake of caring about whether or not your cousin got married in Vegas over the weekend. Cats know better. Being a cat means never having to say that your sorry. It also means never falling for any human pranks.
Happy April Fools Day, everyone.
Meh.
On this day, watch a movie. May I suggest starting with this one?
On a whim, after I finished my review of First Blood, I decided to check to see if there were any music videos featuring Sylvester Stallone’s brother, Frank Stallone.
Lo and behold, from 1985’s Rambo: First Blood Part II.…
