NBC Still Doesn’t Understand The Internet

A few days ago, an old clip from the Today Show showed up on YouTube.  That clip was from 1994 and it featured Katie Couric and Bryant Gumbel trying to figure out what the Internet is.  Apparently, the clip was posted by an employee of NBC.  If you’ve seen the clip, you already know that while it’s mildly amusing, it’s also pretty tame.

Well, NBC didn’t see it that way because they’ve responded by 1) firing the guy who posted it and 2) pulling the clip off of YouTube so quickly that you’d think the NBC offices are located in either Egypt or Iran.

Well — joke’s on you, NBC.  As my friend Ron always reminds me whenever I post a picture on plixi during Thong Thursday, the Internet is forever and now, so is that clip.

So, here’s one of the many copies of that clip that can be found on YouTube.  See it now before NBC demands that it be pulled down.

(Incidentally, my mom always hated Bryant Gumbel and I can still remember, when I was 13 or maybe 14, laughing so hard when my mom turned on the TV and was greeted by his image.  “Pendejo,” she said as she changed the channel.)

  1. Yeah, I first saw the clip when Attack of the Show on G4TV showed it. This reaction by NBC I can only say as being quite the #epicfail and #facepalm.

I would have to agree w/ your mom’s assessment of one Bryant Gumbel. He definitely acts and talks like he has a redwood up his ass.

  2. i am the RON mentioned in the post. YES I ALWAYS TELL HER NOT TO POST THE PICS PROBABLY BECAUSE I AM IN LOVE WITH HER AND HAVE BEEN FOREVER. I LOVE THIS GIRL MORE THAN SHE KNOWS- BUT I STOPPED TELLING HER ABOUT THONG THURSDAY. I AM REMINDED OF THAT SAYING “I’LL SHOW ME,” AND IN THE END MOST STUBBORN PEOPLE END UP HURTING THEMSELVES TRYING TO PROVE THEIR POINT.

i liked the funny video AND WHILE i understand the anger, NBC does own the rights to their videos and they can’t let SOME of them stay posted and not others. This is done by SONY and AP and all major corps. So while you are right they cant’ stop it, they can control it.
They are not posting blogs for fun. This is serious billion dollar money business and they have to protect their property as this is what makes them money.

Thank you Lisa for talking about me in your blog. I usually don’t agree with a lot of what you think but I will always love you forever

  4. Between the Travel Channel, Food Network, Cooking Channel (for the real Iron Chef, or if I’m really bored, Emeril) and ESPN or NFL Network for background noise, I don’t really have much use for network tv. If football wasn’t on the networks, I wouldn’t watch them at all.
