Happy Labor Day! In honor of the holiday, I decided to share the one picture that I’ve taken with the word “work” in it. I took this 5 years ago, when the city was doing some work a few blocks down from the house. At the time, I think I just liked the way the sign appeared to be floating over the car.
This book was originally from 1952 but this cover is apparently from a later printing. I’m not sure on the year of this edition. There’s no mistaking the work of Robert Maguire for anyone else, though.
I think we all had enough summer this year. Send in the fall! This cover was done by Raymond Johnson.
This book was originally published in 1957. It’s been reissued several times and is considered to be a classic of the crime genre. I’m not sure if the cover above is from the original 1957 printing or if it’s from a later date. I do know that the cover was done by an artist named Casey Jones.
This book was published in 1954, back when there was nothing more scandalous than meeting up at a backroads motel. The artwork is by Bernard Safran.

I spotted this on a tree one day while I was exploring Lookout Park. It’s always stuck with me, that promise of “Forever” that’s sat there for who knows how many years. With summer coming to an end in just a few more days and 2021 also coming to a close, this just seemed like the right picture for the first day of September.
This is from 1953 and I guess it’s about a dangerous soda salesman. The cover is by the prolific Lou Marchetti.
