Here’s The Trailer for James Gandolfini’s Final Film

The DropEarlier this year, I was one of my many people to be surprised by the fact that James Gandolfini did not receive a posthumous Oscar nomination for his performance in Enough Said.  After all, Gandolfini was a talented and popular actor who died far too early and his performance in Enough Said showed that he was capable of playing a lot more than just Tony Soprano or other gangster types in films like Killing Them Softly.

Judging from this recently released trailer, The Drop will features Gandolfini in the type of role that he was best known for.  Along with Gandolfini, The Drop features Tom Hardy and the only girl with the dragon tattoo who matters, Noomi Rapace.  Perhaps best of all, it was written by Dennis Lehane, whose books have inspired superior crime films like Mystic River, Shutter Island, and Gone, Baby, Gone.

Here’s The Trailer for Fury!

Fury

If you’re a fan of movies about the military, like Arleigh or Erin, you will probably be excited by the first trailer for the upcoming World War II film Fury.  I have to admit that I’m not particularly a fan of war movies but I still think that the Fury trailer is undeniably effective.  I don’t know if I’ve quite bought into the idea that Fury is going to be an Oscar contender (as some Oscar bloggers are suggesting) but the trailer still suggests that Fury will, at the very least, be better than The Monuments Men.

Trailer: The Judge

Someday, Robert Downey, Jr. is going to win an Oscar but will it be for his performance in The Judge?  This upcoming film has been mentioned on some sites as being an Oscar contender but, based on the newly released trailer, I have my doubts.  Don’t get me wrong — it looks like it’s going to be a good film and Robert Downey, Jr. looks like he’s been perfectly cast.  But, at the same time, the trailer makes the film look just a bit predictable.  Hopefully, the film’s plot — Robert Downey. Jr. is a slick lawyer who defends his estranged father (Robert Duvall) after the latter is accused of murdering his wife — will provide a few unexpected twists that aren’t obvious from the trailer.

That said, this is a film that I will definitely see when it’s released in theaters.  How can you not see a film that features both Robert Downey, Jr. and Robert Duvall?

International Trailer: Guardians of the Galaxy

Here’s the international trailer for James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy!

Despite knowing next to nothing about the comic books that inspired this movie, I can’t help but look forward to it.  How can you not love a raccoon that sounds like Bradley Cooper?

The Final Trailer: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Dawn-of-the-Planet-of-the-Apes-logo-2

Here is the third and final trailer for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes!  Judging from this trailer, it looks like the apes are basically kicking humanity’s ass and you know what?

GO APES!

Sadly, it appears that my beloved James Franco has failed to survive the apocalypse.  However, Gary Oldman is still around and, if anyone can properly represent what’s left of humanity, it’s probably Gary Oldman.

(Incidentally, I’m pretty sure that I would survive the apocalypse.  I have redhead survival skills, after all…)

Trailer: The Interview

James Franco

Kim Jung-un, the verifiably evil dictator of North Korea who is currently starving his nation and trying to build up a nuclear arsenal, might seem an unlikely subject for a comedy.  However, you would be wrong.  This is America and our filmmakers are willing to use anyone and anything, except for Barack Obama, for comedy fodder.  YAY AMERICA!

Anyway, the upcoming film The Interview deals with a talk show host (James Franco) and his producer (Seth Rogen) and details what happens when they are recruited by the CIA to assassinate Kim Jung-un.  It’s probably not too much of a stretch to say that the CIA has an actual, real-life plan to assassinate Kim Jung-un but, then again, it’s not like this film is ever going to be seen in North Korea.

Add to that, the trailer actually looks funny.  And even more importantly, James Franco looks really hot.

The Interview will be released on October 10th.

The Official Teaser For Birdman Is Here!

Birdman

Birdman is one of those films that people like me have been predicting will be an Oscar contender, despite the fact that we know next to nothing about the film.  What we do know is that it’s been described as a dark comedy.  We know that it features Michael Keaton as an actor who is best known for playing a super hero.  We know that it has an excellent and quirky supporting cast that is made up of wonderful performers like Edward Norton, Amy Ryan, Naomi Watts, and Emma Stone.  Perhaps most importantly, we know that it was directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, a brilliant director who one usually does not associate with comedy.

The first teaser for Birdman was released today and having seen it, I’m even more excited to see the actual movie.  I say this despite the fact that the trailer doesn’t reveal anything new about the film.  However, the trailer makes good use of Crazy and I now really want to know what that marching band is doing on the stage.

Watch it below!

Trailer #2: Sin City: A Dame To Kill For

SIn City 2

To be honest, I wasn’t a huge fan of the first Sin City.  I thought the movie, as a whole, dragged and all of the hard-boiled narration didn’t really work as an homage or a parody.  I appreciated the film’s unique look and respected the fact that Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller really did succeed in creating a very real cinematic world but, on the whole, the film just didn’t work for me.  It was a movie that failed to leave me excited, offended, enthralled, exhilarated, or angry.  Instead, I was just bored.

Judging by how excited people online seem to be about Sin City’s upcoming sequel, I am very obviously in the minority.

And, I have to admit, I’ll probably end up watching Sin City: A Dame To Kill For.  After all, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in it.  I just hope that, unlike just about every character in the first film, he doesn’t end up getting disemboweled or shot in the head.

Here’s the 2nd trailer for Sin City: A Dame To Kill For.

(Also, if somebody doesn’t create a parody called Sim City: A Dame To Kill For, I will end up losing all faith in the internet….)

Somebody alert Mia Farrow … here comes Sharknado 2

As our regular readers know, I love SyFy original movies.

Whenever people discover that fact about me, they always assume that I must have loved Sharknado.  Actually, nothing could be further from the truth.  Sharknado was film that tried to force snark as opposed to generating it naturally.  One need only watch a good SyFy film — like End of the World — to see just how overrated Sharknado truly was.

But that’s the thing.  Most of the people who rave about Sharknado have never actually seen any other SyFy films.  To me, everything that I disliked about Sharknado was captured in the image of Mia Farrow and Phillip Roth live-tweeting along with the film.  Everyone knows that Mia Farrow and Philip Roth had never watched SyFy before Sharknado and they’ve probably never watched it after.  And, though they might not want to admit it, everyone knows that Mia’s Sharknado-tweets were pedestrian and predictable.  But, because she’s kind of famous and Ronan Farrow is a thing, we were supposed to be impressed.

Meanwhile, those of us who actually put SyFy original movies on the twitter map, were expected to be thrilled that a celeb had decided to come hang out with the common folks.

If you’ve seen Sharknado but you haven’t seen End of the World or Battledogs, then you don’t know what you’re missing.

(Or what you missed since SyFy appears to be getting out of the original movie business…)

Well, somebody call Mia Farrow because Sharknado 2 is going to be premiering on July 30th.  Judging from the trailer below, it appears that the entire cast will return for “the second one.”  And make no doubt, I will be live-tweeting this film because somebody has to show these false SyFy fans how it’s done.
