Argh!  Pirate Stories was a pulp magazine that ran from 1934 to 1935.  For a total of six episodes, this magazine shared stories of pirates, both of the past and the modern day.  Life on the high seas was full of danger and adventure, as you can tell by looking at the covers.  Here are the six covers of Pirate Stories.

Artist Profile: Joseph Szokoli (1913 — 1981)


Born in New York City and educated at the Pratt Institute, Joseph Szokoli began his career as a commercial illustrator in 1934 and worked up until his death.  Szokoli’s work is distinguishable from the work of his contemporaries because he worked with an airbrush, giving his covers a unique look all their own.
