Here’s The First Teaser For The Stand

Let’s just be honest here.

Come December, we all know what we’re going to be in the mood for.  After making our way through 11 months of 2020, everyone is going to watch a miniseries about a society-destroying pandemic that leads to a civil war and the destruction of a major U.S. city.

I mean, seriously.

The latest version of The Stand will premiere on December 17th, on CBS All Access so, if you’re thinking of canceling your subscription because of how terrible Big Brother has been this season …. well, hold off for a few months.  This version of The Stand features Alexander Skarsgard and Whoopi Goldberg and it’s probably going to be really bad but …. well, our longtime readers know how I feel about Alexander Skarsgard.  I’ll watch him in anything.

Anyway, here’s the first teaser for The Stand.

Randall Flagg says hello.

Baby, can you dig your man?

He’s a righteous man!

Here’s The Trailer For Come Play!

It’s weird how many Community stars keep popping up in somewhat forgettable horror films.

Alison Brie was in Scream 4.  Joel McHale just did Becky and he was also in Deliver us from Evil.  Donald Glover was in The Lazarus Effect.  Has Chevy Chase done a horror film?  How about Danny Pudi?  According to Wikipedia, he appeared in a movie called Babysplitters.  I can only imagine that’s a movie about splitting babies so that would definitely count….

Anyway, Gillian Jacobs is the latest member of the study group to show up in a horror film.  I will admit that I nearly gave up on the trailer for Come Play when I heard that, “He’s autistic, dude,” line.  Even in the trailer, that felt like a clumsy piece of exposition.  But I stuck with the rest of the trailer and …. well, it’s doesn’t look too bad.  It doesn’t look too good either.  It looks like an adequate Halloween time waster, to be honest.

Anyway, here’s the trailer for Come Play:

Here’s The Trailer for Ammonite!

Down here at the Texas Branch Office of Through the Shattered Lens, our internet and cable were both out on Monday night and for all of Tuesday.  It was Hell but, fortunately, we’re back up and running today.  Unfortunately, as a result of everything being down, I missed the premiere of the trailer for Ammonite.

Ammonite, which stars Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan, is expected to be a major Oscar contender.  There’s already speculation that this film could win Winslet her second Oscar and Ronan her first.  Winslet plays paleontologist Mary Anning while Ronan is cast as geologist Charlotte Muchison.  The trailer certainly suggests that the film could very well be a contender.  It’s a period piece starring two acclaimed actresses and dealing with not only universal themes but also subject matter that feels very relevant to what’s happening in the world today.

Well, better late than never, here’s the trailer for Ammonite!

Here’s the Trailer for The Suicide Squad!

“Hmmmm …. I don’t know.  Suicide Squad wasn’t that good.  I don’t know if I want to see a sequel….”

“But this isn’t Suicide Squad 2!  This is …. THE Suicide Squad!”

“Oh.  Well, that’s different.  Take my money.”

Actually, another reason to see this film is because it was directed by James Gunn.  I’ll watch anything that James Gunn directs.

Here’s the trailer:

Here’s The Trailer for Zack Snyder’s Justice League!

Another trailer that premiered this weekend was the trailer for Zack Snyder’s cut of Justice League.

Since hardly anyone wants to be associated with Joss Whedon anymore, I assume that this will be the new, official version of Justice League.  I never saw the original release version so I can’t really tell you if this trailer looks like an improvement or not.  (Seriously, I was so annoyed with Batman v Superman that I pretty much just looked at Justice League and said, “No way.”  Not even the presence of Gal Gadot could change my mind)

That said, a lot of people online are really excited about the Snyder cut so here’s the trailer:

Here’s The Trailer For The Batman!

This weekend, several trailers were dropped for the upcoming installments in the DC Extended universe.  People on twitter certainly were excited, though I have to admit that, with the exception of Wonder Woman, I’ve never cared much about the DC films.

Then again, that could change.  To be honest, I haven’t been that enthusiastic for the new MCU films.  I’m even kind of dreading Black Widow because the way the character was killed off in Infinity War still bothers me.  Speaking of which, with the exception of killing off Natasha, I loved Infinity War but I have to admit that it kind of felt almost like to perfect an ending for the entire MCU.  All the films that follow will be in its shadow.  Meanwhile, the DC films are still finding themselves and that could potentially be interesting to watch.  Or not.  We all remember Man of Steel.

Then again — and yes, I know, I’m indecisive — it’s hard for me to get excited for yet another Batman film.  “This Batman is dark and serious!”  Oh, you mean as opposed to all the other recent Batman films?  Y’know why people loved LEGO Batman?  Because it was willing to poke fun at itself and the character.

Anyway, here’s the trailer for The Batman, with Robert Pattinson in the lead role.  I think Robert Pattinson is an excellent actor who has more than proven that he deserves to be known for more than just playing Edward Cullen.  For the record, though this is a DC film, it’s apparently not considered to be a part of the DCEU.  So, I guess maybe it’s taking place in the same cinematic universe as Joker.

(Seriously, it’s kind of hard to keep all these universes straight….)

Here The Trailer For Dead!

This is a trailer for a film called Dead.  I haven’t heard much about this film but death is a universal theme.  Is he a zombie or is he a ghost?  I’m hoping for a ghost.  I’m a little bit tired of zombies.

Well, regardless of whether he’s a ghost or a zombie, this dead cop has a job to do.  He needs to capture the man responsible for his death!

Here’s the trailer!

Here’s The Trailer For Abyssal Spider!

Hey, who doesn’t love spiders?

With the exception of the video’s thumbnail image, this trailer is actually pretty smart about not showing us the actual spiders.  I wish more trailers would take this approach and not give away the entire movie.

Abyssal Spider is scheduled to be released on September 11th.
