Past AMVs of the Day

Music Video of the Day: Miracle by Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding (2023, dir by ????)

Today’s music video of the day has a post-apocalyptic feel to it.  Society has collapsed and new, Ellie Goulding-centered world has risen in its place.  It’s bound to happen someday so consider this music video to be your chance to look into the future.

Enjoy and good luck.

Music Video of the Day: Thinking About You by Calvin Harris and featuring Ayah Marar (2013, dir by ????)

Who are you thinking about?

By the way, I recently heard that some people can’t stand it when people in relationships refer to each other as “babe.”  Personally, I think it’s cute.  It’s also a good way to remind someone that they are loved despite the fact that you might be asking them to take down their favorite work of art until after your aunt visits.  “Take that down,” sounds mean but “Hey, babe, how about we take this down for a few hours?” sounds sweet and fun!  Not only are you using a term of affection but you’re also assuring them that it will only be for a few hours and hey, maybe you’ll do something special to celebrate its return to the wall, right?

Anyway, I like this video.  It’s very celebratory.  It captures the feeling of being young, having too many resources, and just letting the day take to wherever it’s going to lead.  It’s all about freedom and enjoying the life that you have while you have it.  In today’s world, so many people seem to feel that they have an obligation to be miserable all the time.  Seriously, though, you’ve got your entire life to be miserable.  Today, just enjoy yourself.  The world won’t end.

Enjoy!

Lyrics:

If I told you, that this couldn’t get better baby
And your heartbeat, it lets me know you feel the same.
I can hold you, keep you safe until you fall asleep.
Never worried, cause I can give you what you need.

Now everything I do, is all for loving you.
Its not something that we’re used to.
No other way to say, I need you every day.
And now I’m gonna change my ways.
And it’s a part of you, I never wanna lose.
I’ll do anything you want me to.
Like any other day, I know I’ll find a way-aa-aay.
And if ever I’m alone you’ll say.

I’ll be thinking about you.
I’ll be thinking about you.
I’ll be thinking about you.
I’ll be thinking about you.
I’ll be thinking about you.
I’ll be thinking about you.
I’ll be thinking about you.
I’ll be thinking about you.

In a moment, I know that everything could change.
And I know that, my life would never be the same.
You’re the only one that’s making sense to me.
When I close my eyes, you’re the one, I see.
There’s no other way I could ever be … Without you babe.

Now everything I do, is all for loving you.
Its not something that we’re used to.
No other way to say, I need you everyday.

Music Video of the Day: I Need Your Love by Calvin Harris, featuring Ellie Goulding (2013, dir by Emil Nava)

There’s a lot of good things to say about this video.  Beyond the fact that I like the song, I also enjoy seeing all of the different people who run off with the camera.  This video has a lot of energy and it’s just a lot of fun to watch.  Visually, it’s a perfect fit for the music.

But, honestly, the main reason that I love this video is that Calvin and Ellie are just amazingly, incredibly adorable together!  Usually, whenever I see a video about a couple in love, I always assume that one of them has died and the survivor is now remembering all of the good times.  But, in this case, I chose to believe that Calvin and Ellie’s characters not only survived the video but that they stayed together.

(Of course, in real life, Calvin Harris was dating Rita Ora when this video came out.)

Enjoy!

Music Video Of The Day: Acceptable in the 80s by Calvin Harris (2007, directed by Woof Wan-Bau)

Hi, everyone!  Lisa here with today’s music video of the day!

Today’s video is Calvin Harris’s Acceptable In The 80s.  This song, which appeared on I Created Disco, was Calvin’s first hit, reaching the number 10 position on the UK Singles Chart.  I like the song and I like the video, which features big hair, bright colors, and some memorably weird imagery that I’m not even going to try to interpret.

“It was acceptable at the time…”

Hmmm, that’s something we’ve all been hearing a lot this year.

Enjoy!

Music Video of the Day: Slow Acid by Calvin Harris (2014, dir by Emil Nava)

Hi, everyone!  Lisa here with today’s music video of the day!

I’ve heard a lot of different opinions as to what exactly is being portrayed in the video for Calvin Harris’s Slow Acid.  Some people think that the woman in the video has been passed out in an alley and this video is supposed to represent her dream (or nightmare, depending on how you feel about holding up convenience stores).  Some people think that the blueish tint of the woman’s skin is meant to indicate that she’s on drugs or she’s had too much to drink.  (Personally, I find the tint to be more silvery than blueish.)  There’s a lot of debate as to whether she’s dead or just asleep at the end of the video.  The first time I ever saw this video, I assumed she was supposed to be a robot.

Then again, “she was supposed to be a robot” is pretty much my automatic go-to interpretation for almost everything.  You’d be surprised how often I turn out to be right.

Anyway, I really don’t care what the exact meaning is. I just like Calvin Harris and this song.  You can dance to it.  People sometimes forget how important that is.

Anyway, this was directed by Emil Nava, who has worked on a lot of videos since 2009.
