I have a theory that the Taken films, Non-Stop, and the upcoming The Commuter are really just documentaries about the every day life of Liam Neeson. I think Neeson retired from acting in 2009 and since that time, he’s been just been traveling around the world and beating people up.
That’s my theory anyway.
The Commuter is the latest film in the Neeson documentary series. In this one, he gets involved in intrigue on a train. This movie is scheduled to come out in a few weeks and, since it’s a January release, we will probably have forgotten about it by March.
I have to say, though, this trailer amuses the Hell out of me. It’s almost as if the trailer is trying to be snarky about the film that it’s advertising. I especially enjoyed the Saved By The Bell-style acting when Ana told the architect to stay away from her man and to call her “Mrs. Grey.”
And then, that ending.
“You’re pregnant, Mrs. Grey.”
Apparently, the doctor got the memo about Ana’s new name. So, that’s a good thing, I guess.
Here’s the trailer for the upcoming film, Den of Thieves.
Den of Thieves will be released in theaters on January 19th, where it will provide counterprogramming for all the people who aren’t interested in catching up with the Oscar nominees.
It’s the first trailer for Avengers: Infinity War!
Remember how we all got chills when we heard James Spader saying, “I’m going to show you something beautiful…” during the Avengers: Age of Ultrontrailer? That’s how I feel when I hear, “There was an idea…” at the start of this trailer.
From what I’m hearing, I, Tonya could be a dark horse Oscar contender. There does seem to be general agreement that, at the very least, Margot Robbie will be a contender for the Best Actress Oscar.
The film comes out in December. Here’s the first teaser!
I know, I know. These two trailers dropped in July and I’m late in sharing them. Trust me, I feel totally guilty.
Anyway, it’s been a good year for comic books movies so far. Will that trend continue with Thor: Ragnarok? Traditionally, of all the MCU films, it’s the Thor movies that always have the toughest time with the critics. I’ll just say that, to me, Jeff Goldblum was born to play an intergalactic villain.
Plus, Tom Hiddleston! Everyone loves Tom Hiddleston!
Thor: Ragnarok is coming out later this year. We won’t get to see Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of Ready Player One until 2018 but we can watch this teaser!
Hopefully, after slipping a bit with The BFG, Spielberg will return to quality filmmaking with Ready Player One.
(It’s interesting to note that Spielberg does — in theory — have a film coming out this year. It’s called The Papers and it was hastily put together to serve as both a historical drama and a rebuke to the Trump administration’s criticism of the press. The Papers is currently in post-production and there’s some confusion as to whether it will be ready for a 2017 release and Oscar run. To be honest, Ready Player One sounds like it’ll be more fun than The Papers.)
Here’s the teaser for Mother! The full trailer drops on the 8th.
No one seems to be really sure what Mother! is about. It appears to be a horror/thriller sort of thing but, with Darren Aronofsky directing, it’s safe to assume that there will be all sorts of layers of meaning. Along with starring Jennifer Lawrence (who, after Joy and Passengers, could really use a movie that’s worthy of her talents), Mother! also features Javier Bardem, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Ed Harris. Judging by how the majority of this teaser goes out of it’s way to portray Jennifer Lawrence as being isolated in a big house, I wouldn’t be surprised to discover that Bardem, Pfieffer, and Harris all plays figments of Lawrence’s imagination.
Well, look, I’m just going to admit it. I failed you last month. Usually, I try to keep this site up to date with all the best trailers. However, last month, I got very busy with another one of my summer projects and, unfortunately, I ended up running behind on keeping up with all the latest trailers and teasers.
So, if you’ll indulge me a little, I’m going to try to get caught up. Admittedly, some of the trailers that I’m going to share today are going to be old news. But I still want to share them because they’re films that we’re excited about here at the Shattered Lens.
And who knows? Maybe I’m not the only one who had a busy July. Maybe you missed some of these trailers as well.
For instance, check out this teaser for James Franco’s latest film, The Disaster Artist. Now, if you’re like me and you love getting together with friends and tossing around plastic spoons while watching Tommy Wiseau’s The Room, then you can’t wait for the chance to see The Disaster Artist. Telling the true story of Greg Sestero’s friendship with Wiseau and his involvement in the production of The Room, The Disaster Artist was one of the best books of 2014. Rumor has it that The Disaster Artist is also one of the best films of 2017.
If nothing else, James Franco is getting Oscar buzz. If James Franco wins an Oscar for playing Tommy Wiseau, my life will be complete. If it happens, I might even take a year off so that I can bask in the glories of fate.
The teaser below features the filming of one of The Room‘s best-known scenes:
