Here’s The Trailer for Golda!

Here’s the trailer for Golda, a film about Israeli Prime Minster Golda Mier and her leadership during The Yom Kippur War of 1973.  Much as with Michael Caine’s The Great Escaper, this film looks like it could, among other things, allow a veteran performer to enter this year’s Oscar race.  Golda is scheduled to be released nationwide on August 25th.

Here’s The Trailer For The Exorcist: Believer

Fresh from destroying the Halloween franchise, David Gordon Green is prepared to work his magic on The Exorcist.

Here’s the trailer for The Exorcist: Believer.  Yes, Ellen Burstyn returns but who cares?  We all saw Halloween Ends.

Here’s The Trailer For The Great Escaper

The upcoming film, The Great Escaper, is based on the true story of a World War II veteran who, having escaped from his assistant living facility, made his way to France to honor his fallen comrades.  The great Sir Michael Caine plays the veteran while Glenda Jackson, in her final role, plays his wife.  The film sounds unabashedly sentimental and director Oliver Parker is not exactly known for his subtle touch but, with stars like Caine and Jackson and a true life story that touches the heart and bring tears to one’s eyes, attention must be paid.

The trailer dropped today and here it is:

Here’s The Trailer For The Marvels!

The trailer for The Marvels dropped today.  I got through about 30 seconds of it before I started to get a headache thinking about how insufferable the discourse around this film is going to be.  Comic book films can be fun but, over the past few years, the discourse around them has become unbearable.  Will this film be accused of being too woke or not woke enough?  Probably both because that seems to be the way of the culture right now.

On a personal note, I have to admit that I’m at the point where I’m a bit bored with all of the Marvel films and TV shows.  I was very much invested in the MCU for its first ten years but Endgame just felt like the logical place to end the saga.  Everything after that — with the possible exception of the Spider-Man films — has felt somewhat anti-climatic.  The first ten years of the MCU worked because every film, in one way or another, was clearly a part of a bigger story.  Post-Endgame, it’s hard not to feel like the films are lacking the epic feel that previously excited audiences.

Will The Marvels reverse the MCU’s fortunes?  We’ll find out later this year!  For now, here’s the trailer:

Timothee Chalamet weaves some magic in the Wonka Trailer!

When it comes to Willie Wonka, I’m at a total loss. I know there was Wonka gum and candy. There’s also the classic film with Gene Wilder and the adaptation from Tim Burton (both I’ve never really watched). This new version from Paul King (Paddington) appears to be prequel, with Timothee Chalamet (Dune) in the lead role. Patterson Joseph (Neverwhere, The Beach), Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean), Hugh Grant (Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves), Olivia Colman (The Father), Matt Lucas (Bridesmaids), and Sally Hawkins (Paddington).

Wonka premieres in theatres this Christmas.

Joaquin Phoenix and Ridley Scott reunite for the Napoleon Trailer!

With a little help from Radiohead’s The National Anthem (off Kid A, a fantastic album in its own right), Ridley Scott and Joaquin Phoenix are back in the saddle. The trailer for Napoleon seems to be pretty epic in scope. I’m hoping this is will be more along the lines of Gladiator and my favorite, Kingdom of Heaven.

Napoleon also stars Vanessa Kirby (Mission Impossible: Fallout), and will premiere in theatres this Thanksgiving. The film is produced by Apple Films.

Here’s The Teaser For Bob Marley: One Love

Here’s the first teaser trailer for the upcoming musical biopic, Bob Marley: One Love.  This film will star Kingsley Ben-Adir at Bob Marley.  You may remember Ben-Adir from his strangely bland turn as Malcolm X in One Night In Miami.  The film was also directed by the same director who did King Richard.

The film is opening wide on January 12th, 2024.  Here’s the trailer:

Here’s The Second Trailer for Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon!

The second trailer for Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon dropped today.

The first trailer was criticized by some (but certainly not by me) as being a bit too moody and obscure.  The second trailer is a bit more action-packed.  It leaves little doubt that Robert De Niro is the film’s villain while it’s a bit more ambiguous in what it shows us of Leonardo DiCaprio.  (Though who have read the book already know the truth about the character that DiCaprio is playing.)  The second trailer definitely plays up the thriller aspect of the story.

Regardless of which trailer does what, I can’t wait to see the film!
