Another Halloween Has Come and Gone

Another Halloween has come and gone and another Horrorthon has come to a close.  We hope you have had a wonderful October and that the Thanksgiving month brings you much to be grateful for!

And remember, just because you didn’t see the Great Pumpkin this year, doesn’t mean that he won’t be there for you next October.  As always, Linus puts it best:

To all of our readers and from all of your friends at the Shattered Lens, thank you.

Lisa Marie’s Week In Review: 10/23/23 — 10/29/23

Halloween is almost here!  The weather has turned cold and it’s been raining for the past few days.  It’s totally possible that it could be storming on Halloween night.  This is my favorite time of year!

Happy Friday the 13th From All Of Us At The Shattered Lens

Happy Friday the 13th!

Today is the greatest Friday of the year because today is not only the 13th but it’s also October 13th!  Some people consider Friday the 13th to be unlucky but those people have obviously never been the only “good girl” at a weekend party up at Camp Crystal Lake.  Ask any of them and they can tell you just how lucky Friday the 13th can be.

To our readers who are currently struggling today, we make the following suggestion: Turn off twitter.  Turn off MSNBC.  Turn off Fox.  Definitely turn off CNN.  And why not just sit back and enjoy the antics of those fun-loving kids up at Camp Crystal Lake?

In fact, in case you need help picking which movie to watch, the flame-haired one has reviewed every single one of them here on the Shattered Lens!  She personally recommends that you watch parts 1, 2, and 4 but it’s totally up to you!  Here’s some links to her reviews:

Friday the 13th

Friday the 13th Part 2

Friday the 13th Part 3

Friday The 13th: The Final Chapter

Friday the 13th: A New Beginning

Friday the 13th: Jason Lives

Friday the 13th Part VII: A New Blood

Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan

Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday

Jason X

Freddy vs Jason

Friday the 13th: The Pointless Remake

And then be sure to check out: 12 Thing You May Not Have Known About Friday the 13th and then read the flame-haired one’s review of Camp Crystal Lake Memories!

The world will still be here when you get back, we promise.

Happy Friday the 13th everyone!  Happy Horrorthon!

Lisa Marie’s Week In Review: 9/25/23 — 10/1/23

What a week!

So, my plan was to spend this week watching horror movies and writing up all sorts of reviews and stuff and scheduling them for the October Horrorthon.  That’s what I do every year during the final week of September.  This year, though, the universe had other plans.

On Monday, around 4 p.m., I noticed that I was getting a sore throat and that I was starting to feel a little bit light-headed.  I figured it was either a cold or maybe a sinus infection.  Instead, it was the flu.  I spent most of this week in bed, running a fever, and coughing.  I didn’t get to watch or write half of the things that I had planned for.  Fortunately, I’m now recovering.  I wouldn’t say that I’m a 100% well but I’m definitely doing better than I was just two days ago and, more importantly, I’m at a point where I can once against start watching and reviewing films.  And just in time because …. IT’S OCTOBER!

8 Things To Which I Am Looking Forward In October

Welcome to October!  October is a big month here at the Shattered Lens.  It’s the month when we devote the majority of our time to the horror genre.  It’s time for our annual Horrorthon!  Last year, we had a record number of Horrorthon posts.  I’m hoping that we break that record this year but, even if we don’t, it should still be a lot of fun!

Here’s what I’m looking forward to in October!

  1. Killers of the Flower Moon — So, technically, it’s not a horror film, though it does deal with a horrific incident in American history.  That said, Martin Scorsese’s latest is the film that I have most anticipated getting to watch this year.  I know that I’m not alone in that.  We’ve all read the rapturous reviews.  We’ve seen the enigmatic trailers.  This month, on October 20th, we’ll finally get a chance to see it for ourselves!
  2. The Killer — One week after we get a new Scorsese film, we’ll be getting a new film from David Fincher!  Again, it may not be a horror film but it is a movie from one of our best filmmakers.
  3. The Holdovers — If you can’t get into David Fincher’s latest film, you can check out the latest from Alexander Payne, The Holdovers!  Along with Killers Of The Flower Moon, Barbie, and Oppenheimer, The Holdovers is expected to be an Oscar contender come awards season.
  4. Pain Hustlers — And if you can’t get into The Killer or The Holdovers, you can check out Pain Hustlers.  2023 is the year of Emily Blunt!
  5. The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial Trial — The final film from the great William Friedkin is scheduled to be released on Paramount Plus and Showtime on October 6th.
  6. Horror Movies, Horror Movies, and more Horror Movies! — If you can’t enjoy watching horror movies, classic and otherwise, in October, when can you enjoy watching them?
  7. The Fall Of The House of Usher — Mike Flanagan’s upcoming Netflix miniseries promises an update to Edgar Allan Poe’s classic tale of gothic horror!
  8. Halloween — It’s my favorite holiday!  I can’t wait to see all the decorations, all the parties, and all the costumes!

October’s going to be a great month and those of us at TSL can’t wait to celebrate it with you!  What are you looking forward to in October?

Lisa Marie’s Week In Review: 9/18/23 — 9/24/23

Today, I was standing outside when there was suddenly a loud clasp of thunder, rain started to pour out of the sky, and a piece of hail bounced off the roof of my house and then struck me in the forehead!  OUCH!  Of course, being in Texas, the sun was shining the entire time.  Interestingly enough, the storm itself was over in 20 minutes.  As the sun set, the clouds in the sky glowed a deep red color.

This can only mean that October is quickly approaching and with it, our annual Horrorthon!  Horrorthon begins next Sunday and I can’t wait to celebrate everyone’s favorite time of the year with you all!
