A man (Rudd) after suffering a horrible loss decides to reach out and, not in his best interest, become a caregiver. Trevor (Roberts), a bitter kid without a Dad decides to take him on. How does this end up? Well, on a road trip across the country with the kid he is there to care-give for, fountains of youth are found….In a deep dark pit between them….
Review:
I needed a good cry movie tonight, and The Fundamentals of Caring did that for me! Actually, Selena Gomez kinda took the movie in a way I wasn’t expecting.Got to give her a lot of props for what she did in it. Was it a great movie? By no means…Does it fill a deep pit in your soul when you need a movie to cry too?…Yes, it absolutely does!
The Fundamentals of Caring is on Netflix now… and if you want to see a trailer you can…..
WAIT…WAIT…WAIT…. I said there was three things in my preface!!
3: fuck you…No, Fuck you…NO…FUCK you!…Now Stand up and take your piss! Stand up and take a PISS!
Have you ever woken up one morning with a song stuck in your head, just bouncing around, like you can never get it out?
Yeah?….Well, this is not the song you want to wake up to tomorrow!
In Tara Price’s new short film Earworm, that is what it is all about. What can you take? The relentless, unending things on (in) your mind can take everything out of you.
Preview:
For a short film (Thomas) gives everything, literally, everything. And Tara knows how to write, direct and tell the story she wants!
After watching the trailer, I went to bed with my earholes tightly closed!
If you would like to see a trailer for Earworm movie you can here!
I just found about this movie today and my first thought was “Why hasn’t somebody thought of this before?!?” And then went, “Whoever thought of it, why!?!”
But, yes, this is an actual movie coming out straight to DVD / Blu-ray, and I can’t wait to get to watch it! My love of cheesy, bad, b-rated horror movies and all!
Premise:
A Nun summons Satan to inhabit the body of a Great White shark; which, in turn … well, a priest, an exorcism…who knows, who cares! A Shark Exorcism!
Who is behind it?
This is a WildEye Releasing movie. Who have had a couple of fun movies like “Walking Dead in the West” and “Killersaurus”
Who is in it?
Angela Kerecz: “Dumb and Dumber to” “Hot Tub Time Machine 2”
Bobby Kerecz: “Hot Tub Time Machine 2”
See a pattern?…any way, I digress.
I have not seen the movie yet; but the poster looks great!
And if you want to see the trailer, and you really do…you can here!
Shark Exorcist will be on DVD / Blu-ray June 28th and I may or may not be already standing in line, with a Crucifix around my neck!
First off, this is my first post on TSL since being back from my health scare, happy that is over with, for now! So I will be back to reviewing and posting TV stuff you want to know about on a regular basis again! 🙂
I am going to start my TV reviews with Greenleaf, and do it in a bit of an unorthodox way. You will see what I mean in a minute.
What is Greenleaf about?
It is a family drama, a bit soapy, but a bit gritty. Grace Greenleaf, with her daughter, comes back to her Tennessee home for a funeral. Shortly after she is plunged into the family secrets she so longed to keep herself and her daughter out of. Mixed in a setting of betrayal, infidelity and a lot of scandal.
Who is in it, you ask? I got that answer too!
Grace: (Merle Dandridge) of ‘Sons of Anarchy’ fame and others
Bishop James: (Keith David) who needs no introduction
Aunt Mavis (Some lady named Oprah, but I can’t find much about her)
What does Greenleaf bring to the table?
Greenleaf is the first time the OWN network has branched out in it’s own scripted series. Prior to this series it it has tried with Oprahs talk show and some Tyler Perry shows, most with hitting ratings bottoms .
Review:
Very character driven. I got invested in them really quick. I wasn’t expecting much going in, but after watching four episodes, I am hooked! It differs greatly from what you would think this type of show would be. There is nothing campy about it. The acting lacks for a bit, but all the drama you want is there.
Four episode test*?
After four episodes I am giving it a B+ I will definitely keep watching!
Greenleaf airs on the OWN network Wednesdays at 10pm East. with re-airs prior to that.
I watched it so you don’t have to: “My Boyfriend’s Back” (1993)
“He died for me, He came back from the dead for me, He ate somebody for me.”
I’ll get back to that, but let’s get the technicalities out of the way first!
Stars:
Andrew Lowery as Johnny Dingle (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Nothing, Clerks)
Traci Lind as Missy McCloud (Voyager, Fame, 21 Jump Street)
Minor roles by:
Philip Seymour Hoffman, Cloris Leachman,Matthew McConaughey, Renée Zellweger (You might have heard of them.)
Directed by:
Bob Balaban (Nurse Jackie, The Twilight Zone, plus much more)
Written by:
Dean Lorey (Arrested Development, ‘Til Death)
Plot:
To impress his wanna be girlfriend (Lind), Johnny (Lowery) decides to stage a convenience store robbery. In that staging he is killed and comes back as a zombie. Just before dying, Johnny asked Missy to the prom and she accepts.
As Johnny comes back as a zombie, he tries to integrate back into society. Facing anti-zombie discrimination. Missy finally agrees to got to prom with him in his zombie state. Going to the prom, Johnny finally disitergrates into his un-dead form.
While he made it to Heaven, he was let known that his original death was a mistake and he is given another chance. Put back in the point of the robbery, and knowing he was never meant to die, Johnny dives infront of the bullet. The bullet, caught by a locket he made of Missy and himself in the first grade, he is saved. Missy and Johnny go to the prom and (presumably) live happily ever after.
Review:
Honestly, going in, I really wanted to hate this movie. It has all the cheesy plot lines. Boy loves girl, boy dies for girl, boy comes back for girl, she ends up loving him. But if I am going to be honest, this movie was really cute. And to get back to my original quote, yeah, that worked!
Since “My Boyfriend’s Back” is not in public domain, I can’t give you a link to the entire movie, but here is a trailer if you like! 🙂
I know this might not be acceptable, but I am going to post it anyway.
As a life long sufferer of depression and self harming thoughts. I truly know how awful this season can be. Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and the days after are difficult.
Self medicating, Self stimulating….dealing with loss. Remembering what I tried to forget…forgetting what I tried to remember. Grasping for answers and never knowing what the question ever was.
I have been there, not going to lie, I am still there. This is something I suffer from every day.
But one day I decided to reach out and ask for help. *Ring Ring* “Hello, My name is Rachel, are you ok?” Those words changed my life (or saved it) Just one person asking if I was ok. That is all it took.
I don’t want to get away from the fact that depression is a real disease. It most certainly is, and should be treated that way. With a little help and self discipline mine is under control.
I apologize for telling my story so much, but I know how I feel this weekend…and if I can help one person, including myself, I have done my job!

I got a screener of this years Doctor Who Christmas special, all I am going to say is, “Spoilers Sweetie” And Whovians will know what I mean!
And as much as ‘Melody Pond‘ says that…. I won’t spoil the episode for anybody with my preview!
Ok, let me first get this out of the way: watching, writing and reviewing at the same time….
I despise Steven Moffats’ writing of Doctor Who, and I am not the only one, but his Christmas episodes do bring something to the table.
Alex Kingston is back as ‘River Song‘; complete with ‘sonic trowel‘ and all! But, there is a catch, She is now married to the HUGE cyborg King Hydroflax.
River, trying to pull off another hoax, gets caught by The Doctor. She doesn’t recognize him and he gets to play around with that, reversing their roles before.
The Doctor going back into the TARDIS was a beautiful scene! Alex and Peter manage to pull off a heart felt and kindred feeling. Literally, this was the best scene between The Doctor and a “companion” since Rory and Amy.
Got to give props to Greg Davies and Matt Lucas, their performance was enthralling as well.
I have never warmed up to Peter Capaldi as “The Doctor“, just do not like the way he portrays him. But I will admit, this is one of the best Doctor Who Christmas specials ever! Give me a season with Peter Capaldi and Alex Kingston and I will take it forever!
I felt this season of Doctor Who was one of the worst of the modern version; but this Christmas episode might be one of the best episodes ever! Heart-warming, laughable and engaging. I actually loved it!
Definitely Christmas night viewing with the family worthy. I laughed and got teary-eyed all at the same time!
Here is the trailer and you can watch the Doctor Who Christmas Special, The Husbands of River Song, Christmas night on BBC America at 9pm.
The 2016 inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have been announced and classic rock wins the majority; with Deep Purple, Cheap Trick, Chicago and Steve Miller. Getting a boost from ‘Straight Out of Compton‘, N.W.A. rounds out this years inductees.
Eligibility requirements:
“To be eligible for induction as an artist (as a performer, composer, or musician) into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the artist must have released a record, in the generally accepted sense of that phrase, at least 25 years prior to the year of induction; and have demonstrated unquestionable musical excellence.” **
Deep Purple:
Waiting for more than 20 years, Deep Purple finally got the honor they deserved. Deep Purple has been listed as ‘Heavy Metal’, ‘Hard Rock’ and ‘Progressive’. Having sold over 100 million albums, they are one of the most influential bands of all time. The band has gone thru many line-up changes thru the years, and it will be interesting to see which members show up on stage.
Chicago:
Formed in 1967 Chicago pulled a brazen move with their first release, Chicago Transit Authority being a double album, which went Multi-Platinum. Self-described as a “Rock and Roll band with Horns” Chicago has changed their sound thru the years, but remains one of the best selling and longest running bands of all time.
Cheap Trick:
Having preformed more than 5,000 shows, Cheap Trick is one of the most enduring bands of all times. Formed in 1973 they broke thru in Japan first, before the US, often referred to as the ‘American Beatles’. In 2007, the Illinois senate designated April 1st as Cheap Trick day as opposed to April fools day in honor of the band.
Steve Miller:
Although releasing his most notable hits with the ‘Steve Miller Band‘, Miller is being inducted alone. After a storied career, Miller may be ‘The Joker’ after all!
N.W.A.:
Pioneers and legends in the Rap and Hip-Hop genre, N.W.A.’s induction into the HOF is only the third Hip-Hop / Rap group to be let in. Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, DJ Yella, MC Ren and the late Eazy-E were portrayed in this years Oscar nominated ‘Straight Outta Compton‘
Lyrics NSFW:
Snubs:
Among many left out this year were ‘The Cars‘, ‘Nine Inch Nails‘, ‘YES‘, ‘Janet Jackson‘ and ‘The Smiths‘.
The 31st Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place at the Barclays’ Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., on April 8, 2016 and be filmed by HBO for a later broadcast.
Every year, since 2013, us as a #LateNightMovie gang have had an annual Christmas party week. In 2014 it was two weeks and this year it will be three weeks. And as a joke, myself and Tammy (@TRDownden) try to find the worst #LateNightMovie ever.
And as Tammy, and the rest of the gang admitted, I found it!
The movie I put the gang thru was “Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny”
Cast: As I researched this movie, literally, no cast member wanted to be associated with this movie, but here is what I could find. Director: R. Winer
Writer: Hans Christian Andersen (You will get this if you watched the movie)
Santa: Jay Ripley
Plot:
In Florida, Santa has his sleigh stuck in the sand. To escape the heat all of his reindeer fly back to the North Pole, leaving him in the heat. Passing out from the heat, Santa telepathically summons local children to help. The children bring several animals, including a donkey, a horse, a gorilla and most hilariously a pig, to try and get the sleigh free.
When all efforts fail, Santa tells the children the story of a girl who visits a theme park and hears the story of ‘Thumbelina’. At this point, the movie-in-a-movie starts, with the entire 1970 Barry Mahon ‘Thumbelina’ playing, credits and all.
After the movie, Santa tells the children not to give up. The children leave and return with an Ice Cream Bunny driving a fire truck. The bunny offers to take Santa back to the North Pole. The kids left wondering about the sleigh, it disappears and joins Santa at the North Pole.
Review:
Gawd, this movie was horrible! I mean really horrible! If you are sitting around with 96 minutes of your life you never want back, try and sit thru this movie. I will almost put that out as a dare.
Quips:
As always, the #LateNightMovie gang brought their A game to this movie. Here is a sampling of the snarky fun!
TRDowden:
Annnd we just found an even more annoying song
(referring to another movie we will watch!)

Did Vic Savage direct this one too?*
PinkyGuerrero:

kellythul:
Little children, animals, creepy old guy… this IS a Vic Savage film *
*Great minds thinking alike!
TRDowden:
Is there going to be trauma therapists on hand after this movie, because we’re gonna need it
WarrenPeas64:
I think I’ve been to the other part of Florida – the parts I’ve been to don’t have children wandering the beach with farm animals
JesCoolbaugh:
Plot twist, the horse kicks Santa in the jingle bells…
PinkyGuerrero:
Ok, how ironic that Santa say if you have faith your dreams will come true, and he can’t move his sleigh Janeen_FluffyJ:
Wow! Santa heard our wishes and gave us a new movie! LOL
(And Thumbelina begins) kellythul:
Was this movie one of the 7 plagues set upon Egypt? It should have been
WarrenPeas64:
When this bottle is empty I’m going to hit myself in the head with it
Janeen_FluffyJ:
Great… now our hell is freezing over. TRDowden:
The director really needed to quit licking frogs at this point WarrenPeas64:
Hey – I am LOVING this – we’re MYSTing a movie that’s nearly as bad as Frankenstein’s Island
(Nearly as bad???)
JesCoolbaugh:

makeitstopmakeitstopmakeitstopmakeitstopmakeitstopmakeitstopmakeitstopmakeitstopmakeitstop WarrenPeas64:

Thanks Amber, Becs, Myke, Cindy, Holly, Jinni, Jes, Kelly, Phil, Pinky, Warren, Matt, Kurt, Tammy and Myrna for watching this disaster with me!
