The Husbands of River Song: Christmas Jolly Fun! Spoiler free Doctor Who Preview!

I got a screener of this years Doctor Who Christmas special, all I am going to say is, “Spoilers Sweetie” And Whovians will know what I mean!

And as much as ‘Melody Pond‘ says that…. I won’t spoil the episode for anybody with my preview!

Ok, let me first get this out of the way: watching, writing and reviewing at the same time….

I despise Steven Moffats’ writing of Doctor Who, and I am not the only one, but his Christmas episodes do bring something to the table.

Alex Kingston is back as ‘River Song‘; complete with ‘sonic trowel‘ and all! But, there is a catch, She is now married to the HUGE cyborg King Hydroflax.

River, trying to pull off another hoax, gets caught by The Doctor. She doesn’t recognize him and he gets to play around with that, reversing their roles before.

The Doctor going back into the TARDIS was a beautiful scene! Alex and Peter manage to pull off a heart felt and kindred feeling. Literally, this was the best scene between The Doctor and a “companion” since Rory and Amy.

Got to give props to Greg Davies and Matt Lucas, their performance was enthralling as well.

I have never warmed up to Peter Capaldi as “The Doctor“, just do not like the way he portrays him. But I will admit, this is one of the best Doctor Who Christmas specials ever! Give me a season with Peter Capaldi and Alex Kingston and I will take it forever!

I felt this season of Doctor Who was one of the worst of the modern version; but this Christmas episode might be one of the best episodes ever! Heart-warming, laughable and engaging. I actually loved it!

Definitely Christmas night viewing with the family worthy. I laughed and got teary-eyed all at the same time!

Here is the trailer and you can watch the Doctor Who Christmas Special, The Husbands of River Song, Christmas night on BBC America at 9pm.

Trailer: The Legend of Tarzan

Is the Legend of Tarzan going to be any good?  Judging from the trailer … I have no idea.  I’m too busy looking at Alexander Skarsgard…

Legend of Tarzan is coming out in July of 2016 so I know where I’ll be while the rest of you are watching The BFG...

Trailer: The BFG

Right now, the jury’s out on whether or not Steven Spielberg’s Bridge of Spies will be an Oscar champ or an Oscar also-ran.  But, regardless of how things go with the Academy, Spielberg’s follow-up to Bridge of Spies is already scheduled for a July 1st, 2016 release!  It’s called The BFG and here’s the trailer!

OH MY GOD! It’s a preview of Degrassi: The Next Class!

Like a lot of wonderful people, I’ve always understood that the day when Degrassi ceased production would be the day that I would officially be an adult.  For that reason, I cried when I first heard that Degrassi was being canceled.  But then, there were a light on the horizon.  Netflix announced that they would continue the Degrassi saga.  Well, Netflix did not lie!  Degrassi: The Next Class is premiering in January and here’s the preview!

Judging from this preview, it doesn’t look like much has changed at Degrassi but that’s okay.  Degrassi is a lot like real high school in that nothing ever really changes that much. Myself, I’m just hoping that Maya has finally found some sort of inner peace.  I’ll also be interested to see if Spinner is still managing the Dot.  Seriously, he’s never going to get out of Toronto…

So yay!  This means I have at least a little while longer before I officially become an adult!

Here’s the Teaser for 11.22.63

James Franco in Dallas!?

Yes, please!

(James was actually in Dallas filming last month but I was on vacation so I missed him.)

It’s just unfortunate that James is going to be appearing in yet another rehash of the Kennedy assassination.  Allow me to turn on my sarcasm as I say that this film will probably be a totally fair and even-handed portrait of my home city and that everyone in the cast will actually try to get the local accents right (as opposed to sound like a bunch of yankees with peanut butter in their mouth).

But, ultimately, all that really matters to me is that 11.22.63 stars James Franco!  It’ll be available on Hulu starting on February 15th, 2016.

Here’s the Trailer for Midnight Special!

Just recently, I found myself wondering what had happened to Jeff Nichols’s Midnight Special?  This film was one of the most highly anticipated films of 2015 and why not?  After all, Nichols previously gave us Take Shelter and Mud.  And Midnight Special starred Michael Shannon, a great actor if there ever was one.

But then suddenly, people stopped talking about Midnight Special and I wondered where it had gone.  Well, now I have my answer.  It’s gone to March of 2016.

Usually, whenever a release date changes, that’s a bad sign but you know what?  I believe in Jeff Nichols and I believe in Michael Shannon and I can’t wait to see Midnight Special!

Here’s The Latest Trailer For The Suddenly Controversial The Hateful Eight

It’s amazing how quickly things can change.

Just one month ago, The Hateful Eight was a film that everyone was eagerly anticipating but which no one was expecting to be as controversial or as incendiary as Quentin Tarantino’s previous film, Django Unchained.  I think a lot of us were expecting The Hateful Eight to be a bit like Kill Bill — i.e., a delirious homage to Tarantino’s favorite films and one that took place in a parallel universe.  We were expecting The Hateful Eight to be an example of pure cinema, with little connection to the outside world.

But that was a month ago.  Things have changed.  As I sit here typing this, The Hateful Eight has suddenly become one of the most controversial films of 2015.  Suddenly, deciding whether or not to see it has been transformed into a political decision.  Following Tarantino’s public criticism of the police and his refusal to back down from his statements, there are suddenly calls to boycott Tarantino’s latest film.

Myself, I’m not a huge fan of boycotting anything.  I may choose not to see something for whatever reason but that’s my choice and it certainly does not make me politically or morally superior to anyone who may choose differently.  Ultimately, those who want to boycott Tarantino’s film because of his liberal politics need to realize that they’ll also be boycotting a film that stars Libertarian Kurt Russell and features Republican Bruce Dern.  If you can’t stand Tarantino’s politics, don’t vote for him when he runs for President.  Don’t vote for any candidate that he endorses.  But leave his movies, and those of us who want to watch them, alone.

Add to that, The Hateful Eight looks really good!  Check out the trailer below!
