Here’s The Trailer For Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman!

Earlier today, Spike Lee’s BlackkKlansman was screened at the Cannes Film Festival to enthusiastic reviews and a ten minute standing ovation.

Not coincidentally, the first trailer was released today as well.  And here it is:

Amazingly enough, this film is based on a true story.  In Colorado, an African-American cop named Ron Stallworth really did manage to not only infiltrate the local chapter of the Ku Klux Klan but also eventually became the head of the chapter.  In the film, Stallworth is played by John David Washington, son of Denzel.  His partner is played by Adam Driver, who seems to be destined to get an Oscar nomination at some point in the near future.  And David Duke is played by Topher Grace, who has certainly come a long way since That 70s Show.

BlacKkKlansman is due to be released in August of this year.  Both Awards Watch and Awards Circuit currently have it listed as a probable Oscar contender and, going by the initial reaction for Cannes, it very well may be.

Here’s The Teaser Trailer For The Predator!

Despite featuring Jacob Tremblay, this is apparently not a sequel to The Book of Henry

To be honest, the trailer is kind of bleh.  Then again, it really doesn’t have to be anything spectacular.  Most people who see this film are going to see it because of The Predator name, as opposed to anything that may or may not be in the trailer.  Predator is a bit like Alien and The Terminator.  There’s always going to be, at the very least, a curiosity factor whenever a new chapter in the franchise comes out.

That said, the film is directed by Shane Black, who is a freaking genius, and the script was co-written by Fred “Night of the Creeps” Dekker.  So, I’ll give it a look.

Here’s The Latest Trailer (and the pre-trailer teaser) for Ant-Man and The Wasp!

Hi, everyone!

So, Jeff & I just saw Avengers: Infinity War!  I’ll be working on my review tonight but while I’m writing, feel free to watch the latest trailer for this year’s third Marvel film, Ant-Man and The Wasp!  2018 is truly shaping up to be the year of Marvel so it’ll be interesting to see if people get as excited about Ant-Man and The Wasp as they have about Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War.

To be honest, the combination of Black Panther and Infinity War have set the bar very high.  Obviously, the film isn’t going to have the cultural cachet of Black Panther.  Nor does it look like it’s going to be quite as colorful as Infinity War.  Instead, this looks very much like a back-to-basics super hero film, one that will make good use of Paul Rudd’s charisma.  Hopefully, he and Evangeline Lilly will have a bit more chemistry in this film than they did in the first Ant-Man.

The video below starts with the “Where was Ant-Man during Infinity War?” teaser that was released yesterday and then it continues on to the trailer, which was released earlier today.

Here’s The First Teaser for Stranger Things Season 3!

Here’s the first teaser for the third season of Stranger Things!

Don’t expect to learn anything about what’s actually going to happen during season 3 from this teaser.  In fact, the main message of this trailer seems to be, “We’re in production.  Get off our freaking back.”  The teaser, however, does make sure to remind us that Cary Elwes and Jake Busey will be joining the cast in season 3.

So, all of you Jake Busey fans — rejoice!

(And really, who isn’t a Jake Busey fan?)

Interestingly enough, at one point, I wanted to write a movie specifically for Cary Elwes and Jake Busey, one in which they played tabloid journalists who ended up stranded in a town controlled by a Wurdulak.  I really should get back to work on that…

Anyway, enjoy the teaser!  The third season of Stranger Things come to Netflix in 2019!  Will we once again convince Case Wright to watch and review it for us?  Keep visiting the site to find out!

Here’s The Trailer For Venom!

For me, this trailer is kind of iffy.

I know that a lot of people are excited about it but I think that’s a case of being more excited about the character that Tom Hardy is playing than the trailer itself.  I’m hardly an expert on Venom as a character but I will say that Tom Hardy seems to be a better choice for the role than Topher Grace.

(Anyway, Venom fans, I wouldn’t worry too much.  If this movie doesn’t work, they’ll just reboot the character again.)

Myself, I’ll watch Tom Hardy in anything!

Here’s the Second Trailer For Solo: A Star Wars Story!

Hi, everyone!

So, the second trailer for Solo dropped on Sunday and here it is!

Y’know, compared to the other contributors here at the Shattered Lens, I’m not a huge Star Wars fan but I really have to say that this trailer looks really, really, really, really cool.  It has a totally different feel to it than any of the other Star Wars trailers that I’ve seen.  It has a sort of Ocean’s 11/Snowpiercer/Baby Driver-in-space kind of feel to it.

Plus, it also has Donald Glover!

Solo will be released on May 25th!

Here’s The French Trailer For The Man Who Killed Don Quixote!

It took a while but Terry Gilliam has finally made his Don Quixote film.

How long is a while?  Try 19 years.  That’s right.  When pre-production started on The Man Who Killed Don Quixtoe, Bill Clinton was President, George W. Bush was governor of Texas, Barack Obama was starting his first team in the Illinois State House, and Donald Trump was a real estate developer.  Shooting started in 2000 with Jean Rochefort and Johnny Depp in the starring roles but was suspended when the production ran out of money.  In 2002, Lost in La Mancha, a documentary about Gilliam’s then-unfinished film, was released.

Gilliam didn’t give up on the film  Over the next couple of years, production was started and stalled a number of times.  Everyone from Robert Duvall to John Hurt to Ewan McGregor was cast in the film at one time or another.  I think most people assumed that the film would never be finished.

Well, those people were wrong.  Gilliam’s dream project has finally be completed, with Jonathan Pryce and Adam Driver in the leading roles.  It would seem now that the film’s biggest challenge is to live up to all the hype and expectation that comes along with having a 19-year pre-production period.

As for right now, the film does not have an American release date but, yesterday, the first trailer for the French market was released.  And here it is!

Here’s The Latest Trailer For HBO’s Fahrenheit 451!

Earlier this year, I read Ray Bradbury’s original novel so I hope the upcoming HBO film version of Fahrenheit 451 will do justice to the book’s themes.  The trailer below feels a bit more like Blade Runner than Bradbury but Michael B. Jordan and Michael Shannon both seem to be ideally cast.

So, we’ll see!

Here’s The Trailer For The First Purge!

The next film in the Purge franchise is set to be released on the 4th of July!  Hopefully, it’ll be more like the fantastic second film and nothing like the anemic third one.

(The third one does deserve some credit for allowing Kyle Secor to go totally over the top but all the stuff about Elizabeth Mitchell’s presidential campaign was sooooooooo boring!)

Apparently, The First Purge is going to be a prequel.  It’s going to show us how the Purge came to be, which sounds … well, to be honest, I’ve never really cared how the Purge came to be.  In fact, one reason the franchise worked is because they didn’t waste a lot of time explaining all the exact details about how the Purge came to be.  So, I’m not really sure if this is a good idea.

There’s a new director for this installment so it’ll probably suck but here’s the trailer anyway!

Here’s The Latest Trailer For Avengers: Infinity War!

Hi, everyone!

Last week, I swore to myself that there was only one thing that I would allow to interrupt my vacation and that thing would be a new trailer for Avengers: Infinity War.  I swore to myself that if a new trailer dropped, I would take a few minutes to hop on here and share it with everyone.

Well, the trailer has dropped.

And here it is:

This is going to be so awesome!
