Here’s the latest trailer for Soul!

Yes, yes …. I know.  I’m two days late in sharing this.  Listen, these things happen and I think you should find it within your soul to forgive me.  After all, how can you be angry when I’m sharing a trailer for a PIXAR film?

Personally, I have loved just about every PIXAR film that I’ve ever seen.  That said, I also think that it’s possible that PIXAR is secretly run by aliens who want to see how frequently someone can be traumatized before they totally give up on happiness.  From all of the toys being given away in Toy Story 3 to the first ten minutes of Up, PIXAR is all about getting people to cry.  I’ve cried during every PIXAR film that I’ve ever watched, with exception of those movies about the talking cars.

This latest PIXAR film is called Soul and it’s about just that.  It’s about …. well, the plot sounds really strange to me so I’m not even sure if I want to try to type it out.  I will say that it involves death and not giving up on your dreams and celebrating life and it’ll probably make me cry a lot.

Soul was originally going to be released into theaters but we all know what they say about the best laid plans of Disney and PIXAR.  So, instead, it’ll be released on Disney+ on Christmas Day.  Hopefully, Disney+ will let its subscribers watch it, as opposed to charging them an extra thirty dollars for the opportunity.  (That’s right …. I’m looking at you, Mulan!)

Here’s The Trailer for Jungleland!

The upcoming film Jungleland features a trio of underrated actors: Charlie Hunnam, Jack O’Connell, and Jonathan Majors.  It’s a film about a bare knuckles boxer who travels across the country with his brother, who also happens to be his manager.  I assume that they solve crimes or something.  The important thing, though, is to remember the friends that everyone made along the way.

Anyway, Jungleland is due to be released on November 6th and here’s the trailer:

Here’s The Second Trailer For Ammonite!

Yesterday, the second trailer for Ammonite dropped.

Up until a few months ago, Ammonite was getting a lot of buzz as a possible best picture nominee.  That buzz has died down a bit and it seems like, whenever I read anything about the Oscar race, Ammonite is kind of getting overshadowed by the acclaim that’s greeted Nomadland and One Night In Miami.  One thing that I’ve repeatedly seen is people who have seen the film saying that it doesn’t quite work but that’s it’s beautifully acted by Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan.  Probably not coincidentally, Winslet and Ronan are both still very much a part of the current Oscar speculation even if Ammonite is no longer the Best Picture favorite that it once was.

Myself, I’m still looking forward to seeing the film.  Winslet is one of the greatest actress of her generation and Ronan is one of the greatest of her’s.  Anything that brings these two together should be worth watching.

Here’s The Trailer for All Joking Aside!

All Joking Aside is a new film from Quiver Pictures, which will be released, on demand, in November.  November 13th, to be exact!

It’s a film set in the world of stand-up comedy.  Raylene Harewood plays a young, aspiring comedian who develops an unusual friendship with an older, jaded comic after he heckles during her first open mic.  The film was directed by Shannon Kohli.  To quote Kohli from the film’s press release, “While more and more funny women are breaking through and establishing a presence in popular culture, it’s a trend that needs to be supported and I really hope that this film can play a part in that.”  That sounds good to me!

Here’s The Trailer For Hillybilly Elegy!

Here’s the trailer for Ron Howard’s Hillbilly Elegy!

This film has been getting some Oscar buzz, which I guess you would expect from a film directed by Ron Howard and starring Glenn Close and Amy Adams.  It’ll be released, by Netflix, on November 24th.  I’m actually looking forward to it, just because I’ve got relatives who live a similar life to the people in this movie.  To be honest, though, the trailer looks almost too Oscar bait-y.  Sometimes, when it’s way too obvious that you’re going for the awards, it can backfire.

We’ll see.  Amy Adams is one of my favorite actresses.  I can’t believe she hasn’t already won an Oscar.

Here’s The Trailer for Season 2 Of The Mandalorian!

So, I’ll be honest.  My first reaction when I saw this trailer was to spend like the next six hours talking about how cute Baby Yoda is.  Once I got over the cuteness of Baby Yoda, I thought about how atmospheric and full of menace and mystery this entire trailer is.  Seriously, this whole thing is wonderfully put together.

Enjoy the trailer!  The Mandalorian returns on October 30th!  As for now, be sure to watch the Emmys on Sunday to see how the show does when the big awards are handed out.  It’s got quite a few nominations.  There’s a long-standing Emmy tradition of shows that are a part of the cultural zeitgeist receiving a lot of nominations during their first season and then not winning anything.  Hopefully, that won’t be the case with The Mandalorian.

It’s a monster apocalypse and only Dylan O’Brien can save us!

Listen, I don’t know if the film’s going to be any good or not but we should all be happy that Dylan O’Brien is still with us.  After he was seriously injured during the filming of the the last Maze Runner film, a lot of people thought that he might never return to films.

As for this film, Michael Rooker’s in it and that’s often a good sign.  It looks like it might be fun.  We’ll find out for sure on October 16th!

Here’s The Trailer For The Trial Of The Chicago 7!

The Trial of Chicago 7 has been on the Oscar radars of several observers ever since this year began.  Not only does it have a big-name cast but some feel that, in telling the story of the trial of a group of protesters, the film is well-positioned to take advantage of the current political zeitgeist.

Or something like that.  To be honest, I just like using the word “zeitgeist.”

To be absolutely honest, the fact that Aaron Sorkin is involved in this just makes me cringe.  This is exactly the type of project that will probably bring out his worst instincts as both a writer and a director.  Will the film feature any prominent female characters and, if so, how much time will be devoted to them being put in their place by the witty men of Sorkin Land?  I guess we’ll have to watch to find out.

Anyway, here’s the trailer.  The film will be coming out on Netflix sometimes this year.
