Happy Birthday, Arleigh!

Today is not just Thanksgiving!  Today is also the birthday of the co-founder and the editor-in-chief of Through the Shattered Lens, Arleigh Sandoc!

Sing it, Marilyn!

Next month, it will have been 15 years since Arleigh asked me if I wanted to collaborate on this wonderful site.  Wow — FIFTEEN YEARS!  In a world where most entertainment-related blogs tend to close up shop after their third entry, we’ve been going for fifteen years and we’re just getting better and better.

So today, while I give thanks for so much, I will definitely be giving thanks for Arleigh and his friendship and also, for the trust that he’s put in me over the years.  I love TSL.  It gave me some direction at a time when I desperately needed it and it built up my confidence at a time when I was at my most fragile.

Happy birthday, Arleigh!  Here come the cats!

No, not that cat!  These cats!

Happy Birthday, Arleigh!

Today is a very special day as we celebrate the birthday of the one and only …. ARLEIGH SANDOC!  The cats are celebrating and so are we!

Happy birthday, Arleigh!

Nearly 15 years ago, Arleigh came across me ranting about Italian horror on what was then twitter and he invited me to join him in the founding of the site that would eventually become known as Through The Shattered Lens!  The rest as they say, is history!  I am still so thankful for that invitation.  I’ve been posting my reviews here at the Shattered Lens since 2010 and I have grown so much as both a writer and a human being over those years.

A new year is coming up and I’m currently busy plotting out my plans for the year 2025. However, today is all about Arleigh!  In order to celebrate, check out some of Arleigh’s best reviews, like his thoughts on Night of the Living Dead and A History of Violence!  Or maybe check out the very first post to ever appear on the Shattered Lens, Arleigh’s review of Avatar!

Happy birthday, Arleigh!  Here comes the cake!

Happy birthday, Arleigh!

Nearly 14 years ago, Arleigh founded the site that would eventually become the Shattered Lens.  After coming across my ranting about Italian horror on what was then twitter, Arleigh invited me to join him and his initial crew of writers and, the rest as they say, is history!  I am still so thankful for that invitation.  I’ve been posting my reviews here at the Shattered Lens since 2010 and I have grown so much as both a writer and a human being over those years.

Happy Birthday, Arleigh!

A hushed silence falls over the TSL offices as we come together to celebrate the man who makes all of this possible.

Today is November 27th.

Today is …. ARLEIGH’S BIRTHDAY!

Thirteen years ago (!), Arleigh Sandoc created the site that would become Through the Shattered Lens.  Twelve years ago, he came across me defending Dario Argento on twitter and he asked me if I would like to be a contributor.

Of course, I accepted and I have never looked back.  Over the years, we’ve been joined by other contributors, all of whom have added their voices and made Through the Shattered Lens into what it is today.  It’s been a wonderful ride and I’m looking forward to thirteen more years!  And it all started with Arleigh Sandoc and a review of Avatar!

So, today, let us celebrate!

Celebrate by reading Arleigh’s review of Avatar, the post that launched this site.

And then check out his review A History of Violence!

And his review of Night of the Living Dead!

Want a real blast of nostalgia?  Check out his thoughts on the first episodes of The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones!

Thank you, Arleigh, for the opportunity to be a part of Through the Shattered Lens.  And happy birthday!

Happy Birthday, Arleigh!

Happy birthday, Arleigh!

Nearly 12 years ago, Arleigh founded the site that would eventually become the Shattered Lens.  He recruited our initial crew of four writers.  (We’ve obviously grown since those early days) and he asked me to come aboard as co-editor of the site.  I have grown so much as a writer, due to the opportunities and the freedom that Arleigh offered to me and every other writer on this site.  If you’ve ever enjoined anything you’ve read on this site, Arleigh is the man to thank.  If you’ve ever discovered a new film or song or comic or game or …. well, anything, as a result of this site, just know that it all began one Christmas Eve, when Arleigh Sandoc decided to post a review of a film called Avatar.

2022 is going to be all about celebrating everything that this site is about and I hope we’ll see each and everyone of you there.  Today, however, is all about celebrating Arleigh.

Happy birthday, Arleigh!

It’s Not Christmas Without Treevenge….

We have a tradition here at the Shattered Lens.

Every December 25th, we watch the the movie that Arleigh Sandoc has often declared to be the greatest holiday movie ever made …. Treevenge!

With Christmas coming to a close, now seems like a good time to do just that!

So here, for your holiday enjoyment …. it’s Treevenge!

Happy holidays, everyone!

(And Happy Birthday to the Shattered Lens, which is ten years old today!  Formal celebration begin on January 1st, 2020 and will run all the way through December 31st of that year.  Hope to see you there!)

Happy Birthday, Arleigh!

Happy birthday, Arleigh!

Nearly 10 years ago, Arleigh founded the site that would eventually become the Shattered Lens.  He recruited our initial crew of four writers.  (We’ve obviously grown since those early days) and he asked me to come aboard as co-editor of the site.  Tomorrow is thanksgiving but I can tell you what I’m thankful for today.  I’m thankful that Arleigh took a chance and made me a part of this site.  I have grown so much as a writer, due to the opportunities and the freedom that Arleigh offered to me and every other writer on this site.

Next year, we’ll be celebrating the TSL’s 10th birthday all year long.  2020 is going to be all about celebrating everything that this site is about and I hope we’ll see each and everyone of you there.  Today, however, is all about celebrating Arleigh.

Happy birthday, Arleigh!

Happy Birthday, Arleigh!

A hushed silence has descended in the TSL Bunker, for today is a very special day.  Today is the day that we all wish a happy birthday to the man who makes this site possible, TSL co-founder and editor-in-chief, Arleigh Sandoc!

Happy birthday, Arleigh!  9 years ago, Arleigh started the process of bringing together the blogging team who, since 2009, have been reviewing movies, books, video games, pulp art, music, comic books, Lifetime movies, amusing twitter memes, and the occasional Super Bowl!  Happy birthday Arleigh!

What better way to celebrate Arleigh’s birthday than with some Death Metal cats?

And how about a song?

And now a very special announcement from the Shattered Lens…

Hi everyone!

Today, I have very exciting news about something that has been going on behind-the-scenes for a while here at the Shattered Lens.  Today, one of my humans — I call her the flame-haired one but you probably call her Lisa Marie — finally convinced Arleigh that it’s time to turn the Shattered Lens into the internet’s number one Twilight fan site!

The flame-haired one has been trying to convince Arleigh to do this since she first joined the site in 2009.  Even though no one has really cared or thought about Twilight since 2012, the flame-haired one is convinced that she will be able to once again get everyone in America wondering if they’re “Team Edward” or “Team Jacob.”  So, say goodbye to the all of our old reviews and features and get ready for endless polls, memes, and out-of-date gossip about whether Rob and KStew are still as close as Edward and Bella!

Congratulations, Flame-Haired One!

April Fools!

From the humans and the cat here at the Shattered Lens, happy April Fools Day!  Please be kind with your jokes and remember that April Fools Day ends at midnight!  Any pranks pulled after midnight will no longer funny and will instead just be annoying.  Meh.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ARLEIGH!

Today is a very special day here at the Shattered Lens!

Yes, it is the final Sunday in November and I’m sure that has some sort of pagan importance that I don’t know about but, even beyond that, it’s NOVEMBER 27th!

IT’S ARLEIGH’S BIRTHDAY!

Next month, it will have been seven years since Arleigh decided to create a site that would be devoted to all things entertainment.  At the time, the site was called Unobtainium13 and Arleigh got things started with his review of Avatar!

Shortly after he published that review, Arleigh asked me if I would like to collaborate with him on the site.  I always pretend like I had to think about it.  I always say that I accepted after “careful consideration.”  The truth of the matter is that I accepted as soon as Arleigh asked and I’ve never regretted it once.  My work here at the Shattered Lens has helped me to grow as both a writer and a person.  Not only has it given me the chance to watch a lot of really good (and occasionally really bad) films but it’s also helped me to find my voice as a reviewer.  My work here has helped me through the hard times and has made the good times even better.

Over the years, this site has grown and gone through many changes but one thing has never changed.  Arleigh has always been there for me and he has always remained committed to making this the best site that it could possibly be.

Thank you, Arleigh!

Now, let’s watch some anime.  Let’s listen to some Sinatra.  Let’s grab a glass of our favorite adult beverage.  And let us all say to Arleigh —

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
