Jack Nicholson may have starred in CHINATOWN, ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO’S NEST, and THE SHINING, but for a person born in 1973, the first movie I ever loved Jack Nicholson in was BATMAN (1989). I’ve been a fan ever since! Happy Birthday, Jack!

Brad’s Scene of the Day – Lau Ching-Wan solves a case in THE BIG BULLET!
THE BIG BULLET is known for a handful of awesome action sequences, but one of the reasons I enjoy the film is the way the Hong Kong “Emergency Unit” works together to solve some fairly simple cases as well. Enjoy this scene where Sergeant Bill Chu (Lau Ching-Wan) sees right through the lies of a bitter employee.
Brad’s Theme Song of the day – “Ko Chun’s Theme” from the GOD OF GAMBLERS!
In my review of GOD OF GAMBLERS, I mention Ko Chun (Chow Yun-Fat) strolling into the casino to the rousing theme music of the film. I later saw someone comment on a YouTube video that they would like a “sensor at my door that plays this song every time I walk through it.” I couldn’t agree more! It’s an excellent song for slow motion coolness and it’s used to nice effect multiple times throughout the film. Enjoy my friends!
Happy Birthday in heaven to Howard Keel!
SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS (1954) is one of the great musicals of all time! And Howard Keel was also Ms. Ellie’s man after Jock died in DALLAS. That’s a hell of a career!
Dennis Quaid in Toad Suck, Arkansas!

Happy 71st Birthday to Dennis Quaid. He’s been in a lot of good movies over the years, but I’m quite partial to a movie he made in 1977 called SEPTEMBER 30, 1955. He stars alongside Richard Thomas, Tom Hulce, Susan Tyrrell, Deborah Benson and Lisa Blount. The movie is about a group of friends at the Arkansas State Teachers College, which is my Alma mater the University of Central Arkansas, who deal with the death of James Dean. It’s a good movie that was filmed all around central Arkansas, including my home community of Toad Suck, Arkansas. In the picture above he’s sitting on a “beach” along the Arkansas River in Toad Suck. I’ve been there many times. The movie was written and directed by the talented Arkansan James Bridges, of THE PAPER CHASE and URBAN COWBOY fame. It’s a film well worth searching out. I’ve included the trailer below.
Brad’s “Stand-up of the Day” – Tim Thomerson with Freddie Prinze & Friends!
As a big-time lover of B-movies in the 80’s and 90’s, I’ve mostly known Tim Thomerson as Dollman and Jack Deth in all those Trancers movies. I know there’s a bunch of those because Lisa hosted every one of them on #FridayNightFlix. But I found out a few years ago that he was also a well known stand up comedian who did a Charles Bronson impression. On his 79th birthday, I thought I would celebrate his stand up comedy. Be on the lookout for the Bronson impression that starts at about the 4 and a half minute mark. And this is definitely NSFW! Enjoy, my friends!
Brad’s Scene of the Day features Jackie Chan in PROJECT A (1983)!
Jackie Chan is a truly unique talent. He’s one of my all time favorites, and rates his own section in my massive physical media collection. On Jackie’s 71st birthday, and my granddaughter’s day of birth, I share this incredible bicycle chase featuring some fun Jackie stunts and ending with Sammo Hung. Enjoy my friends!
Billy Dee Williams in NIGHTHAWKS (1982)!
I love Billy Dee Williams. When I was a kid, I remember Florence from THE JEFFERSONS loving him. I also loved him as Lando Calrissian in the STAR WARS movies. I’m sure I had his action figure. As I got a little bit older, I started to appreciate his larger body of work in movies like NIGHTHAWKS with Sylvester Stallone and Rutger Hauer, and NUMBER ONE WITH A BULLET with Robert Carradine. On his 88th birthday, I wanted to take a moment to celebrate Billy Dee Williams, and one of my favorite action movie scenes. This scene from NIGHTHAWKS features three unbelievably cool actors in their prime!
Enjoy, my friends, and Happy Birthday Billy Dee!!
Roger Corman directed MACHINE GUN KELLY (1958), Charles Bronson’s first starring role!
I’ve always appreciated the legendary Roger Corman, who was born on this day in 1926, because he gave Charles Bronson his first starring role in MACHINE GUN KELLY. I’ve heard Quentin Tarantino himself say that It’s the best movie that Corman ever directed. It was such an important movie for Bronson because it directly led to a HUGE break 10 years later when Alain Delon wanted him for his co-star in FAREWELL, FRIEND (1968). Delon wanted Bronson because he admired his performance as George Kelly.
Happy Birthday in heaven, Mr. Corman! Thanks for giving Charles Bronson, and so many greats, the break of a lifetime!
Celebrate Victoria Smurfit’s birthday with a catfight!

If a person has co-starred in a movie with Charles Bronson or Chow Yun-fat, I’m a fan of theirs for life. Back in 2003, the lovely Victoria Smurfit played a villain in Chow’s BULLETPROOF MONK. To celebrate her birthday, I’m sharing this fight scene from the film, also featuring Jaime King. Enjoy!
