Lisa Marie’s Week In Review: 9/25/23 — 10/1/23

What a week!

So, my plan was to spend this week watching horror movies and writing up all sorts of reviews and stuff and scheduling them for the October Horrorthon.  That’s what I do every year during the final week of September.  This year, though, the universe had other plans.

On Monday, around 4 p.m., I noticed that I was getting a sore throat and that I was starting to feel a little bit light-headed.  I figured it was either a cold or maybe a sinus infection.  Instead, it was the flu.  I spent most of this week in bed, running a fever, and coughing.  I didn’t get to watch or write half of the things that I had planned for.  Fortunately, I’m now recovering.  I wouldn’t say that I’m a 100% well but I’m definitely doing better than I was just two days ago and, more importantly, I’m at a point where I can once against start watching and reviewing films.  And just in time because …. IT’S OCTOBER!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN MONTH EVERYONE!  THE OCTOBER HORRORTHON IS HERE!  And we’ve got a lot in store for you, both here at the Shattered Lens and also at Horror Critic!  On a personal note, this is my favorite time of year and I can’t wait to share it with all of you.

Lisa Marie’s Week In Review: 9/18/23 — 9/24/23

Today, I was standing outside when there was suddenly a loud clasp of thunder, rain started to pour out of the sky, and a piece of hail bounced off the roof of my house and then struck me in the forehead!  OUCH!  Of course, being in Texas, the sun was shining the entire time.  Interestingly enough, the storm itself was over in 20 minutes.  As the sun set, the clouds in the sky glowed a deep red color.

Lisa Marie’s Week In Review: 8/21/23 — 8/27/23

What was the highlight of this week?  I finally watched Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City and I absolutely loved it.

What was the lowlight of this week?  Some will undoubtedly say that it’s Dune Part 2 being pushed back to 2024 but, honestly, that’s not the end of the world.  If nothing else, Dune will probably have the March box office to itself.  For me, the lowlight continues to be the heat.  I’ll be happy when winter arrives.

Lisa Marie’s Week In Review: 8/7/23 — 8/13/23

As I’ve already said this week, rest in peace to the great William Friedkin.  Much like Paul Schrader, he was a veteran of the Golden Age and he was willing to say whatever was on his mind, regardless of whether it was the conventional wisdom or not.  We could definitely use more filmmakers like Friedkin.

It’s still hot.  When I try to think about what I did over this past week, I mostly remember getting mad about the heat.  Right now, my main focus is on getting things ready for October.

I watched two of the best crime films of the 70s, Dirty Harry and Death Wish, Eastwood and Bronson at their best!

Lisa Marie’s Week In Review: 7/24/23 — 7/30/23

Another hot week comes to an end.  I will be glad when fall gets here.  I can’t wait for October!

It’s kind of funny how we’re not hearing more about the congressional hearings on alien life.  I mean, I’m usually a proud skeptic about stuff like that and even I kind of want to know a little bit more.

Sinead O’Connor, R.I.P.  On Friday night, Jeff and I joined our friends Pat and Brad in watching two of O’Connor’s concerts that had been uploaded to YouTube.  One concert was in Dublin while the other one was in Finland.  She had an amazing voice.
