6 Trailers For The Thursday Before Halloween

It’s a holiday and you know what that means!

Or maybe you don’t.  Sometimes, I forget that not everyone can read my mind.  Anyway, I used to do a weekly post of my favorite grindhouse trailers.  Eventually, it went from being a weekly thing to being an occasional thing, largely due to the fact that there’s only so many trailers available on YouTube.  Now, Lisa Marie’s Favorite Grindhouse and Exploitation Film Trailers is something that I usually only bring out on a holiday.

Like today!

So, here are 6 trailers for the Thursday before Halloween!

  1. The Monster Squad (1987)

I swear, there are some people out there who really, really love this movie.  And good for them!  Love is what makes the world go round.  Personally, I’ve never watched it but it seems like everyday, someone on twitter makes a comment about the wolfman having nards.

2. Trick ‘R’ Treat (2007)

This is another movie that people around me seem to love.  Strangely, I haven’t seen it, though the trailer seems to suggest that it’s something that I would enjoy.  So, consider this my promise to you — next year, I will review Trick ‘R’ Treat for horrorthon!

3. Trick or Treat (1986)

“Rock and roll will never die!”  And neither will Halloween.

However, make no mistake about it …. horror is not just a Halloween thing.  It can infect any holiday….

4. New Year’s Evil (1980)

From director Garry Marshall comes an all-star film about the moments that make us who we are and the one night when everyone is celebrating…. oh wait.  Sorry, wrong movie.  This is actually a Canadian film that featured a killer who commits a murder in every time zone at the stroke of midnight.  I’m not sure why anyone would think that was a viable plan but it was the 80s and cocaine was everywhere.

So, to make clear …. Garry Marshall was in no way involved with this film.

5. Slaughterhouse Rock (1988)

New Year’s Evil was not the only slasher film to feature a soundtrack of rockin’ 80s music!  There was also Slaughterhouse Rock, which had a Devo soundtrack and which featured Toni Basil in a small but key supporting role!

Finally, let’s finish things off with one more horror musical spectacular.

6. Black Roses (1988)

OH MY GOD, LOOK AT THOSE DELOREANS!

Still, despite their really cool cars, this band is not a band to listen to.  There’s only way you can get your band to sound as bad as the one in this movie and that’s too make a deal with the the devil!  Losing your soul to sound terrible …. it’s just not worth it.

Though, admittedly, those car are pretty freaking cool….

Anyway, happy Eve of the Eve of Halloween!  Enjoy these trailer and be sure to enjoy some wonderful films as well!

Here’s The Trailer For Dreamland!

Here’s the trailer for the upcoming Margot Robbie film, Dreamland!  Robbie not only stars in this film but she produced it as well.

Though the person who uploaded the video claims that Dreamland is a horror film, I’ve read that it’s actually a dramatic thriller.  If it was a horror film, releasing it in November would be a huge mistake.

Anyway, here’s the trailer:

Dreamland will be released on November 13th!

Belatedly, Here’s The Trailer for Mank

With all of the excitement of Halloween and horrorthon, it can sometimes be hard to keep up.  For instance, Mank is one of the films that I’m really looking forward to seeing this year and yet somehow, the release of the first trailer went straight over my head.

So, belatedly, here it is:

Now, I will admit that I have one huge concern.  From what I’ve heard, this film is based on Pauline Kael’s claim that Herman Mankiewicz deserved more credit for Citizen Kane than Orson Welles.  That’s an argument that’s been widely discredited.  (It’s also why Welles included a barely disguised version of Kael in The Other Side of the Wind.)  As someone who is pro-Welles to the point of being a snob about it, I’m not sure how I’m going to react to a perhaps less than charitable portrayal of him.

As well, if this was a theatrical release, I would probably make fun of the film for having such a terrible title.  Fortunately, Netflix exists.  That said, I get the feeling that — if the script had been written by anyone other than the director’s father — the title would have been the first thing to change.  Those of who love movies know who Herman Mankiewicz was but I can guarantee you that the rest of the world is going to say, “What’s a Mank and why should I care?”

That said, I love Gary Oldman and I love the look of the trailer.  Plus, it’s directed by David Fincher!  I hated what he did to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo but still, Fincher’s one of most interesting directors around.

I’m looking forward to seeing Mank in November.

Here’s The Trailer for Porno!

My friend Jason says this is a great film so I’ll share the trailer, despite the fact that YouTube is probably going to start recommending some crazy stuff to me now.

The film is apparently about some theater employees who watch a cursed pornographic movie and then have to deal with a succubus.  These things happen.  One the one hand, moving to video from film did adversely effect the quality of the films being released by the adult film industry.  At the same time, it also led to less supernatural curses.  Everything has a price.

Anyway, here’s the trailer.  Google’s recommending porn to me now.

Here’s The Trailer for News of the World!

Earlier this year, I think almost everyone in America was thrown into a moment of panic when it was announced that Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson had been diagnosed with COVID-19.  Not only did it show us that anyone could get the disease but it also forced to consider the fact that Tom Hanks is just as mortal as the rest of us.  At that moment, we stopped taking Tom Hanks for granted.

Fortunately, both Tom and Rita recovered from the Coronavirus.  When the previously unheralded Greyhound premiered on AppleTV+, it was an unexpected hit and many observes assumed that it was all due to people suddenly remembering just how much they loved Tom Hanks.  This December, Hanks has another movie coming out and there’s some speculation that his role in News of the World could lead to Hanks picking up another Oscar nomination.

In News of the World, Hanks stars as a Civil War veteran who has been tasked with delivering a girl back to her aunt and uncle.  The catch is that the girl doesn’t want to return back home.  News of the World reunites Hanks with his Captain Phillips director, Paul Greengrass.  Captain Phillips featured what was perhaps Tom Hanks’s best performance to date.  Strangely enough, Hanks did not receive an Oscar nomination for that performance.  At the time, it was felt that the Academy was guilty of taking Hanks for granted.  If this year has taught us anything, it’s that you should never take anyone or their talent for granted.

Here’s the first trailer for News of the World, which will be released in December:

Here’s The Trailer For Dead Reckoning

Let’s end this day with one last trailer.

This is the trailer for Dead Reckoning.  The trailer looks low budget and kind of predictable but that explosion at the end had to have cost some money, right?  Anyway, this film looks very melodramatic and very silly and very over the top and I imagine I’ll probably love it for exactly those reasons.

Here’s the trailer:

Here’s The Trailer for The Empty Man!

The Empty Man is an upcoming horror film about a spirit that is vengeful because …. well, it’s empty, I guess.  I mean, I guess that would make me angry too.  No one wants to be shallow.

Anyway, here’s the trailer.  How many clichés can you count?

Here’s The Trailer for I’m Your Woman

I’m Your Woman is an upcoming 70s crime drama, which is another way of saying that it’s a film about people who surround themselves with wood paneling and shag carpeting.  In this one, Rachel Brosnahan plays a woman who is forced to go on the run after her husband betrays his criminal partners.

I’m Your Woman will be released on Prime on December 11th.  Here’s the trailer:

Here’s The Trailer For Last Three Days!

I have no idea what’s going on in the trailer for Last Three Days but I do appreciate that it encourages me to “question reality.”  That’s always a good sign.

For the record, I do not think that this film is connected to The Next Three Days or Last Days of American Crime.

Watch the trailer and judge for yourself:
