I absolutely love this video and that’s really about all I have to say about it. There are some videos that you just love because they exist and, for me, this is one of those videos. I love the atmosphere, I love the lightning, I love the lyrics, and I even love all the water, even though I’m still morbidly afraid of drowning.
Today’s music video of the day is the latest from Imagine Dragons. He’s wrecked because his relationship didn’t work out. At least he’s got a nice beach to think about it on. I can’t imagine anything worse than being depressed some place that isn’t photogenic.
This video was at least partially filmed at Caesar’s Palace. They even got a special thank you.
Let’s get the week started with this new music video from Shakira. Remember, everyone, it’s the summer. You better be having a good time out there! Let Shakira be your guide.
Is Meg Myers singing about killing a person or about killing an emotion? I think you can view the song and the video either way. The video is wonderfully atmospheric and, yes, the underwater scenes totally freak me out. Meg Myers is an artist who definitely deserves to be better known.
This music video pays tribute to Bob Fosse and specifically, his work on Sweet Charity. If you’ve seen Sweet Charity than you will immediately be impressed by what a good job this video does in paying homage to it.
For the record, from what I understand, Arthur Miller did not treat Marilyn Monroe very well when they were married. And, while The Crucible and Deathofa Salesman are both very good plays, a lot of his work was too didactic and heavy-handed to survive the test of time. (Even Death of a Salesman occasionally feels like it’s on the verge of turning into a parody of Clifford Odets.) Marilyn always felt like she had to struggle to live up to Miller’s intellectual reputation. Joe DiMaggio loves Marilyn though, in the end, he may have been too conventional in his outlook and lifestyle for her.
I don’t think Marilyn Monroe was murdered, though there are definitely some unanswered questions surrounding her death. I think she did kill herself and I think that the the way she was treated by the Kennedys was a contributing factor. I imagine that was can all agree that Marilyn deserved to live a happier life than she did.
This is from Annette, which made quite a splash at Cannes last week and which will be released on Prime later this year. As for Cannes, it’s got a few more days to go!
This is a cover of the famous New Order song, performed on 1930s instruments by Orkestra Obsolete. It’s mysterious and haunting, as these things should be. One almost gets the feeling that this could have been lifted from a new before seen sequel to Eyes Wide Shut.
Some people might be tempted to say that this is a somewhat shallow video but I would argue that it’s actually a very clever parody. As soon as I saw that the garage had a disco ball, I understood exactly what I was dealing with. That said, as I watched the video, I also assumed that Loren Gray is actually the head of a secret organization of international car thieves.
