How much is Ghostbusters a part of the American culture?  It’s such a part that the decoration pictured above was the most popular thing in the neighborhood last Halloween.  All through the month of October, people young and old drove up and down the street just to see the Stay Puff Marshmallow Man.

Well, come August 29th, those same people will have a chance to see him again because, in honor of the film’s 30th anniversary, Ghostbusters is going to be re-released.    And, speaking as someone who has only gotten to see Ghostbusters on television, I can’t wait to watch it on the big screen.

And, since I love trailer, what better way to commemorate the re-release of Ghostbusters than be sharing the trailer?

Enjoy!

Scenes I Love: 86th Academy Awards Show

bill murray oscars reuters

Always known to be the quirky, eccentric personality, during last night’s broadcast of the 86th Academy Awards, Bill Murray provided a fitting, spontaneous tribute to his long-time friends and collaborator Harold Ramis.

Harold Ramis passed away last week at the age of 69 and Murray’s on-stage tribute to his friend must’ve brought not just smiles and applause from the crowd but some tears as well.

Whatever one thinks of last night’s show this was one moment that made it all worth watching.

From the deepest pits of hair…

A dark cloud looms over our publishing department. The earth trembles, and the lights grow dim. Arleigh is away, perhaps contemplating what to do for our 1000th post landmark here at Shattered Lens. I scurry to the fridge, concerned as usual with my stomach rather than the task at hand, but as I open the door the pent-up horrors of a thousand cheesy grindhouse films and corpse paint-encrusted metal bands manifest within.

What could this be? What have we unleashed upon the world? Many a foul fiend has Through the Shattered Lens bravely reviewed before, but none so vile as this. I tremble in fear at what lies before me… the most vulgar, base, soulless abomination to have ever plagued humanity… The 1980s.

Necrocomiccon – Careless Whisper

Congratulations, fellow authors, on reaching our 1000 post milestone, and thank you to all the readers for sticking it out. Maybe Arleigh will have something more interesting in store for you tonight, but in the meantime I couldn’t resist. Necrocomiccon are a new band from “probably Norway” who write black and melodic death metal parodies of 1980s pop songs. You can check out their album for free on their facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/Necrocomiccon.
