Music Video of the Day: Dulce Amor by David Archuleta (2025, dir by Nathan Kim)

In case you were wondering whatever happened to David Archuleta, here you go.

Myself, I can still remember when David Archuleta was on American Idol.  There was actually a lot of controversy when he came in second to David Cook, which always struck me as a bit odd.  Archuleta seemed like a nice guy with an okay voice.  David Cook actually had talent.

(If anything, this was the season that showed how silly it was to have adult performers competing against teenagers.)

Oh, the Archuleta stans were crazy.  I remember posting some very jejune criticism of Archuleta’s performance of Imagine on a message board and getting accused of being a “psychopath” for not enjoying Archuleta’s rather weepy interpretation.

My favorite that season was Jason Castro, just because of how obviously stoned he was.

As for today, Archuleta’s a boring ex-Mormon now.  Who didn’t see that coming?  This video presents us with Archuleta the angel, which is like whatever.  I honestly think it wouldn’t hurt him to get a new management team.  Either that or I guess he could become a perennial political candidate like Clay Aiken.

Enjoy!

Music Video of the Day: The Memory Remains by Metallica, featuring Marianne Faithfull (1997, directed by Paul Andresen)

There are many reasons why Jason Newsted is one of the greatest bassists of all time.  Beyond his talent, there’s his honesty.  Newsted is someone who is going to shoot straight, no matter what the question may be.  For instance, in 2002, Newsted was asked if, as a heavy metal fan, he would have bought Metallica’s 1997 album, Reload.

Newsted, who had left Metallica the previous year, replied, “Not if I heard ‘The Memory Remains‘ first.”

The Memory Remains might not be Metallica’s song.  Newsted was definitely right about that.  But it does have a memorable video, one that shows that, once the band broke their previous “no videos” stance, they quickly figured out how to use the format to their advantage.

This video was shot at the Van Nuys Airport and it had a budget of $400,000.  The room that they are performing in was actually a constructed box.  The room moved while the band remained stationary on a platform, which created the impression of the band playing while on a giant swing.  Marianne Faithfull adds her vocals as well.

Enjoy!

Music Video of the Day: Next by Olivia Holt (2021, dir by ????)

I like this video because the opening images and the first few notes of the song remind me of some lost Eurospy classic from the late 60s. It has a nicely decadent, Jess Franco sort of feel to it. And that’s always a good thing!

Enjoy!

Music Video of the Day: Future Shock by Marc Collin, feat. Clara Luciana (2019, dir by Marc Collin)

Both this song and the scenes in the videos are taken from one of my favorite films of the last few years, The Shock of the Future. A tribute to the women who helped to create electronic music, The Shock of the Future is a rather inspiring film and it can currently be viewed on Tubi. So, go watch it!

But watch the music video first.

Enjoy!
