Neil Marshall’s Centurion Official Trailer

I have been a huge fan of Neil Marshall. The British filmmaker burst into the genre scene with his cult-classic werewolf-siege flick, Dog Soldiers. He then follows that up with the excellent all-female cast monster mash, The Descent. His third outing was a bit mixed for some, but I definitely had a great time with Doomsday. Marshall really knows the genre he works in and also enjoys staying in it.

His fourth film is a historical thriller set during the Roman occupation of Britain during the 2nd Century A.D. The film was originally called The Ninth Legion during the production, but has since been officially changed to Centurion. The basic premise of the film is Marshall’s telling of the legend of the 9th Legion and their disappearance north of Hadrian’s Wall. He’s made it known that the film will not be historically accurate and wasn’t meant to be. The film will be his way to re-tell the legend of the legion’s disappearance, it’s cause and wrap an action-thriller around it.

Starring in the film are Dominic West, Michael Fassbender (last seen as the British operative Hickox in Inglourious Basterds) and Olga Kurylenko. The film is tentatively dated to be released in the U.K. on April 23, 2010. No set date has been announced for a NA release, but I’m sure it will get one. It better.

A.D. – CG Animated Zombie trailer

I must begin this entry by thanking Phil Edwards over at Live for Films for introducing me to this particular piece of awesome. Check out his very extensive blog on practically anything about films. It was there that I first saw this trailer for a zombie film that’s stuck between concept and development. The trailer is for A.D. and while it hasn’t been made into a feature-lenght film this trailer should convince studio heads everywhere to seriously make this into one. If 9 can go from a short cgi-animated film into a full blown feature-leght one then I definitely think A.D. should get the same chance. I mean it’s CGI zombie apocalypse and does it ever look great.

The only thing I hope doesn’t happen is for a place like Lionsgate to end up as the studio to get this film up and running. They may like horror and genre films, but they’ve been very sloppy in handling those same types of film (ex: Midnight Meat Train and Punisher: War Zone). I think A.D. is definitely the type of project Peter Jackson’s production company could get behind on.

So, all horror and genre fans need to spread the word concerning A.D. This is a film that needs to get made and he sooner the better.

Inception 2nd Teaser Trailer

I still have no clear idea what Christopher Nolan’s follow-up film to The Dark Knight is all about. Inception seems to be about the power of the mind to alter things. From this latest trailer there a sense of Proyas’ Dark City in the some of the visuals and more than just a passing influence from the Wachowski Brothers’ Matrix Trilogy. But this being Nolan whatever influences we may see will probably be supplanted by his own take on the nature of reality, memory and dreams.

If rumors are true about the supposed budget for this film (some saying it’s 200million or more) then Nolan is really inching towards Cameron territory when it comes to acquiring the sort of budget to make his ideas come to life. I’m interested in knowing if Nolan will be shooting some of this film on IMAX like how he did some of the more expansive sequences in The Dark Knight. From the look of some of the scenes in this trailer I wouldn’t be shocked if he did.

[REC]2 Teaser Trailer

I wasn’t that too big a fan of the first film ([REC]) and definitely not a huge fan of the American remake which got renamed, Quarantine. The “in-the-moment” video footage made popular by films such as The Blair Witch Project and Cloverfield really stretched the need to suspend one’s disbelief while watching the original Spanish-language film and it’s American remake. But then again I seem to be in the minority when it comes to not liking those two films.

With the popularity of both films having made its studios profits it didn’t come as a surprise to see a sequel greenlit by the original Spanish studio with the original filmmakers, Jaume Balaguero and Paco Plaza, returning. The sequel is to take place immediately after the events of the first film. From the trailer that has been released of the film the same camera-style as the first film remains, but (if I’m to go by how the trailer was put together) this sequel may actually capture my interest. There’s a sense of this sequel looking like a live-action survival-horror FPS game. I’m sure the sequel won’t just be trying to be like a video game, but the trailer sure makes the sequel seem more interesting and just a bit more energetic.
