Compared to the film, the video is decidedly low-key but it’s still a lovely piece of music.

Music Video of the Day: Demon by Claudio Simonetti (1985, dir by Michele Soavi)
Today’s music video of the day is Demon by Claudio Simonetti.
This was composed for the soundtrack of Lamberto Bava’s classic film, Demons. The video is basically mix of scenes from Demons and Simonetti performing. It’s pretty simple but I still like it, mostly because Demons is one of my favorite Italian horror films. Interestingly enough, this video was directed by Michele Soavi, who played the man in the mask in Demons and who went on to direct such horror classics as Stagefright, The Church, and Dellamorte Dellamore.

Music Video of the Day: Suspiria by Daemonia (2001, dir by ????)
Both on his own and as a member of Goblin. Claudio Simonetti has been responsible for some of the most iconic scores in the history of Italian horror cinema. He is probably best known for Goblin’s score for Dario Argento’s Suspiria. The minute you hear the opening of that score, you are immediately transported into Argento’s nightmarish world of witches, death, and ballet.
In 1999, Simonetti formed Daemonia, a heavy mental band that played updated version of his classic horror scores, along with new material. In this video, they perform Suspiria and the end result is a perfect video for October!

Music Video of the Day: Possum Kingdom by The Toadies (1994, dir by Thomas Mignone)
I was really excited when I first came across this video because I assumed that it was about a bunch of possums.
Then I found out that actually, the song was named after Possum Kingdom Lake, which is a real lake down here in Texas. Unfortunately, I’ve never seen any possums at Possum Kingdom Lake but I assume that there must be a few around because, otherwise, the name would be inaccurate, right?
Anyway, when I first heard the song, I thought it was about a vampire. Then I had my BFF Evelyn listen to it and she thought it was about a serial killer. It turns out that we’re both wrong. According to the lead singer of the Toadies, the song was actually about a ghost who was inviting someone to join him in the netherworld.
By the way, this video was shot in Dallas. Woo hoo! Overall, it’s a good song, though the “so help me, Jesus” stuff feels a bit forced. And it’s a good video, full of atmosphere and menace. It’s a perfect video for our October Horrorthon!

Music Video of the Day: Blue Fear by Armin van Buuren (2009, dir by Ciro Ayala)
To be honest, this music video freaks me out a little bit. I think that’s understandable, though. When you see a big disembodied head chasing someone through a maze, it just makes sense that you’re going to get a little bit freaked!
That’s actress Calina Chen being chased through the maze. She also appeared in the video for Matt Darey’s Follow You, which was directed by the same director who did Blue Fear, Ciro Ayala.

If this song and video doesn’t make you feel good, there’s no hope for you.
(Unless, of course, a spaceman really does arrive on the planet and offers up a chance of redemption. I mean, who knows what miracles they may be capable of performing?)

Music Video of the Day: Money (That’s What I Want) performed by The Flying Lizards (1979, dir by ????)
I already shared another video for this song back in May of this year. In fact, I shared it on May Day, because I felt like poking some fun at socialism. That video featured the Flying Lizards performing on a Danish show. At the time, I didn’t realize that there was an actual “official” video for their cover of Money.
But, last night, I came across that official video so here it is!
I have no idea who directed this or any of that good stuff. I just like the song.

Music Video of the Day: Coming Over by Dillon Francis, featuring Kygo and James Hersey (2016, dir by Tomas Whitmore)
Okay, I’m just going to be honest. I love this video. I know that the video’s main theme is one of regret and the soul-destroying pain of being lonely but seriously, this video amuses the Hell out of me. From the vomit to the ball gag to the hipster at the end, this is another wonderfully self-aware video from the great Dillon Francis!

Music Video of the Day: Ray Bomb by Afrojack (2013, dir by ????)
I like this video because the story it tells can be viewed either negatively or positively.
Now, if you take a literal interpretation, it would appear that the video details not only a possible demonic possession but also an intergalactic invasion of some sort. I mean, when graffiti comes to life, it’s probably reasonable to be a little bit concerned. I guess it depends on how good the artists are in your area.
However, I tend to view the video much more positively, as a celebration of the vibrancy of music, art, and freedom! Myself, whenever I watch this video, I want to go out and dance in the middle of the night. Actually, I do that most nights anyway but still, this video always puts me in a good mood.
(Or an even better mood, as the case may be.)
How you view it will probably depend on how pessimistic or optimistic you are right now.
