I just watched the latest episode of Fear The Walking Dead and I have to say that this is probably the first time this season where I really felt lost. I think that if I had watched the previous seasons, I would have had a better reaction to this particular episode. But, I have to admit that I had to use Wikipedia to discover who Al was and why Morgan and Grace were looking for her.
I will say that Maggie Grace did give a good performance as Al and it was hard not to get caught up in her joy as she experimented with that cannon. And I do like the idea of someone trying to travel the country and record people’s experiences for future generations. Whenever I watch any of the Walking Dead shows, I always wonder what it’s going to be like for the people who were born after the zombie apocalypse and who have no memory of what the world was like before the dead starting walking. Everything that we take for granted today would be viewed the way that we currently view the Roman Empire, a remote and almost mythological time that sometimes seems to be beyond understanding.
Unfortunately, there were many moments when the latest episode reminded me of one of those old Walking Dead episodes where almost the entire show would just be Rick driving from one location to another, having endless conversations about everything other than what the viewer wanted to hear about. The episode was bit too slowly paced for me, which has always been a frequent issue when it comes to The Walking Dead and its spin-offs.
That said, it appears that things have worked out well for Al and Isabelle so yay! And tomorrow night’s episode will apparently feature Strand so an even bigger yay! for that. Strand is a far more compelling villain that the paramilitary thugs that wandered through this episode (not to mention Walking Dead: World Beyond).
Yesterday, a judge denied Britney Spears’s request to remove her father from her conservatorship. This was done despite Britney’s earlier heartfelt and shocking testimony about the Hell of not being allowed to control her own life. Despite that setback, Britney’s fight is not over and all of us will continue to support her efforts to win her freedom. Free Britney!
In honor of Britney, today’s music video of the day is one that she had to fight to make. Britney also had to convince Jive Records to allow her to shoot a video for this song, despite the fact that the label had no plans to release it as a single. Britney not only convinced them but she also made her directorial debut here, working with Billie Woodruff. (Woodruff also directed the videos for Born To Make You Happy and Overprotected.) The end result was an iconic video for an iconic song.
Enjoy!
This was one of the first Britney Spears videos to feature what would become a oft-visited theme in her videography: the desire to escape the paparazzi, relax, and dance. This video finds Britney finding safety in an abandoned warehouse, which is the type of thing that’s kind of worrying to see. I’ve seen enough horror movies to know that it’s never a good idea to go inside an abandoned warehouse, especially when you’re young and alone.
For instance, in college, I was fascinated by this deserted building that was sitting in the middle of the campus. Apparently, the building used to be a dorm but, for whatever reason, it was closed down and then used to store furniture and what appeared to be damaged text books. There were big chain locks on the door and weeds growing up all around it. It was so strange, this creepy building sitting in the middle of our otherwise bland campus.
My friends and I would often go down to that abandoned building at 3 in the morning, just so we could look in through the windows and see if we could spot any zombies or serial killers. We never did, though we screamed at every shadow. Though we often talked about breaking into the building and exploring, we never did. I didn’t believe in ghosts but I knew they’d suddenly exist if I entered that building.
I mean, it’s just common sense!
Luckily, Britney’s dancers follow her into the warehouse and presumably scared off whatever ghosts may have been haunting the place. That, of course, allows this horror movie to turn into a dance party! Yay!
Enjoy!
