It’s debatable whether or not this song from Vondelpark is actually about the Lord of the Vampires but I imagine he’d appreciate it. Myself, I love the atmospheric, dream-like feel of both the song and the video. Just listening to this puts me into another world.
Sadly, Vondelpark is no more. They broke up in 2016. But Dracula lives forever.
Today we see the wide release of David Gordon-Green’s sequel to John Carpenter’s Halloween. A film that’s a direct sequel to the horror classic, David Gordon-Green was able to bring in John Carpenter himself to compose the film’s score just as he did for the original film.
This time around, Carpenter is accompanied this time around by his son, Cody Carpenter, and godson, Daniel Davies. So, we have three generations with the original Halloween in their DNA attempting to improve or, at the very least, not make the score to this official sequel sound like just a copy and paste of the original score.
I would say, after listening to the full score a couple times, that these trio have succeeded where others have failed in scoring the other films in the franchise. My favorite track from this new score has to be the one titled, “The Shape Returns.”
With more modern electronic and synthesizer equipment available for use, Carpenter and his helpers were able to take the main Halloween theme and give it a more modern, angrier and menacing (if that’s even possible) sound for “The Shape Returns.”
Today’s music video of the world is for another song from Thom Yorke’s soundtrack for the upcoming Suspiria film.
Given how much I love Argento’s original, I’m not particularly enthusiastic about a new version, especially when so many people think that the proper way to support the new version is to denigrate the original. Still, so far, I’m liking what I’ve score of Yorke’s score.
Today’s music video of the day is from Thom Yorke’s soundtrack for the upcoming Suspiria remake or rehash or reboot or whatever the Hell it’s supposed to be.
I may not be particularly happy about the idea of a new version of Suspiria (especially one that apparently doesn’t involve a single Argento) but I do like what I’ve heard of the soundtrack. Of course, nothing can improve on Claudio Simonetti’s work on the original but still….
Today’s music video of the day comes from Agnes Obel.
It’s an absolutely beautiful song and the video is wonderfully atmospheric. It’s not necessarily a horror video but the eerie feel of it all makes it perfect for October.
Anyway, here they are performing Buio Omega in concert. Buio Omega is the main theme of one of my favorite Italian horror films, Beyond the Darkness. Even if you haven’t seen the film — and, when it comes to movies about wealthy young men who dig up their dead girlfriends and eat hitchhikers, it doesn’t get much better than Beyond the Darkness — the music is wonderfully atmospheric. You just hear this music and you know that something really odd is about to happen.
