Happy Super Bowl Sunday! This is a national holiday, as my old edition of Madden used to put it. Playing Madden, I discovered that the way to get to and win the Super Bowl was to always play with difficulty set to rookie. One time, in Franchise Mode, my team won 30 straight Super Bowls. And yet none of the players involved in setting that amazing record made it into the Hall of Fame.
As far as I can tell, no one in this video will be playing in this year’s Super Bowl.
This is a lovely video and I’m happy to feature it as today’s music video of the day. Everyone’s been a lonely dancer at some point in their life and this video has a 70s, working class hero vibe to it that I really appreciate.
Today, the Shattered Lens wishes a happy birthday to Joe Pesci! A favorite of Scorsese’s, an fascinating interview subject, and the star of the short-lived series Half-Nelson, Joe Pesci has become a true American institution.
It’s often forgotten that, before he became an award-winning actor, Pesci pursued careers as both a stand-up comedian and a singer. Here he is, performing a lounge version of The Beatles’ Fool On The Hill for his 1968 album, Little Joe Sure Can Sing!
Oh God, I know the feeling. Especially as of late. Kacey has a way of capturing it all and this video certainly does capture that being buried alive, slowly suffocating sensation that comes from being overwhelmed to the point you wish you could just vanish.
Today’s music video of the day is the snowy and visually moody video from Italy. I’m a fourth Italian myself. I get the feeling that I may have mentioned that before,
I can relate. This whole month has been full of bad omens. Let’s just hope that Valentine’s Day can redeem things and save 2024 from being over before it’s even begun!
Or, at least, I think I can relate. I’m not really sure what the song is about. I’m just reacting to the drowning imagery. It’s easy to feel like you’re drowning under the weight of everything that you need to get done. Being basically out of commission all last week left me running so far behind that I don’t feel like I’m ever going to caught up.
Jeff and I saw this video at tonight’s Night Flight Friday watch party, along with our friends Brad and Patrick. As soon as the video started, I knew that I had found our next music video of the day. And not a minute too soon because I’m typing this up like 15 minutes before the time hits midnight on the West Coast!
What do I like about this video? The beach! The fun! The party! The dancing! Plus, the song’s tune really get stuck in your head. (To be honest, I’m the worst when it comes to actually hearing lyrics. I just hear the music and I’m often shocked by how poorly I do whenever I try to recite the lyrics later. I assume that “Half a boy and half a man” was a lyric in this song but he could have been singing one of the Bond theme songs for all I know.) This past week was also that week so getting to see a fun video and hear a catchy song was a nice way to celebrate making it to the end.
Anyway, I’m totally off my previously perfect schedule now but I’ll get caught up with everything (including my retro television reviews) over the weekend. For now …. ENJOY!
The second day of February. It’s Groundhog Day. I am finally feeling a bit more awake and ready to get back with everything. It’s time for a new kind of kick and here to give it to us is Muse.
