Song of the Day: Born To Be Wild by Steppenwolf

My Dad passed away last night.  Today’s song of the day is dedicated to him.

My Dad was many things.  He was a fighter.  He was a trucker.  He was a biker.  He was a rebel.  He loved action movies.  He loved his country and distrusted his government.  He was the most honest man I ever knew, always telling the truth even when it would have been easier to lie.  He was someone who stood up for himself and never backed down from a challenge.  I remember, when I was a kid, he would frequently get pulled over for speeding and he would always give the cop the finger while accepting the ticket.  My mom would get mad at him for that and my other sisters would admonish him with, “Dad, you’re going to get another ticket!” but deep down, we all knew that was what he had to do.  That was just who he was.  He lived his life his way and I’m thankful that we reconnected and we were able to fix our own relationship before he passed.

My Dad was ten years sober when he passed and I know he took a lot of pride in that.  A lot of people didn’t think he was serious when he said he had given up drinking but I knew he was and I knew he’d stick with it.  I was proud of him and I still am.

Today’s song of the day could have been written about him.

Music Video of the Day: Natural One by The Folk Implosion (1995, dir by Michael and David Udris and Larry Clark)

This song was written for the soundtrack of the 1995 film, Kids, and not surprisingly, the video if full of scenes from the Larry Clark-directed film (along with another story about astronauts and wind-up toys).  Oddly enough, the song itself doesn’t actually appear in the film.  The film instead uses a much lesser song called Daddy Didn’t Understand or something like that.

Anyway, this is a good song.  I like it and the video definitely works.

Enjoy!

Music Video of the Day: Die With A Smile by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars (2024, dir by Daniel Ramos and Bruno Mars)

This is a good song.  Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga actually compliment each other much more than one might expect.  I’m almost looking forward to that second Joker movie now …. almost.

Enjoy!

Music Video of the Day: Me Oh My by Kylie Minogue (2024, dir by Charlie Di Placido)

Watching this video reminded me of the time that I went to Florence and became totally overwhelmed by the shock of viewing so many great works of art in person.  I nearly fainted!  It’s an experience that I recommend to everyone.

Enjoy!

Music Video of the Day: Lifetimes by Katy Perry (2024, dir by Stillz)

Hey, Stillz– nice video but get a real name, okay?  I’m tired of every video director being named Director Y or Crunch Time or whatever.

Remember the Taylor Swift/Katy Perry feud that happened like a hundred years ago? I was Team Katy all the way.  From what I understand, the feud was largely media-created and Taylor and Katy are now friends and that’s nice.  Katy also wrote this song for her daughter, which is also nice.

Enjoy!
