First broadcast on November 11th, 1960, Eye of the Beholder is one of the best known and most acclaimed episodes of The Twilight Zone. Telling the story of a bandaged patient and the shadowy doctors who continually talk about how the patient’s upcoming surgery will be her final chance, this is one of those universal episodes that is probably more relevant today than when it was first broadcast.

  1. Eye of the beholder is one of the many wonderful twilight episodes due to its famous, well known universal message, poignancy of the main woman character, and bizarre and surprising twist in the end. Shallowness is an unfortunate condition people in real life have had for a long time, along with the pain and hurt the victims of shallow treatment have had to unfairly undure when their appearances or other unchosen attributes have alienated them from other people in social society. Society has tried to tell us for a long time what is considered pretty or ugly, and the people who haven’t matched what society considers attractive have been unfairly rejected from the mainstream flow of belonging. This episode touches that universal note, and because its the twilight zone, it also has the intriguing bizarreness of many other zone episodes. The twist at the end is infamous for all twilight fans. Like other reviewers have pointed out, you notice how the camera won’t show anyone’s face until the last part of the episode.
